Liga Desarrollo Round 7: Punto Rojo beat Importadora in the most crucial game of the week

First ranked Punto Rojo faced 3rd placed Importadora. Host Punto Rojo (6-1) smashed guests from Ambato (4-3) 73-53. Punto Rojo forced 19 Importadora turnovers and outrebounded them 43-30 including 31 on the defensive glass. The former international power forward Eduard Caicedo (196-90) fired a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds for the winners. Power forward Jorge Cabezas (-99) chipped in 10 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Center Michael Torres (-2) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds for lost side. Punto Rojo have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 6-1 record. Importadora at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. Punto Rojo are looking forward to face Santa Maria (#6) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Importadora will have a break next round.
The game in Quito was also worth to mention about. Fifth ranked Rincon dC (3-4) played at the court of 7th ranked Sacramento (1-6). Rincon dC defeated Sacramento 80-69. Worth to mention a great performance of Rodrigo Roldan (-98) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. David Aparicio contributed with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. point guard Alfredo Salgado (-95) answered with 20 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals for Sacramento. Rincon dC maintains fifth place with 3-4 record. Sacramento lost fourth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with six games lost. Rincon dC will play against higher ranked Caballeros (#4) in Ambato in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sacramento will play on the road against the league's second-placed Piratas in Ibarra to get more than just one victory in their record.

There was no surprise in Ambato where 6th ranked Santa Maria (1-5) was defeated by fourth ranked Caballeros (3-2) 67-52. Caballeros dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Santa Maria's 26. They outrebounded Santa Maria 51-38 including 17 on the offensive glass. Caballeros brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. It was a very good performance for center Jordan Cardenas (206-98, college: FNU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points and 19 rebounds. The former international power forward Carlos Delgado (202-90) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Center Nelson Ayovi (-0) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds and Andres Conchambay (190-87) added 10 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Santa Maria. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Caballeros maintains fourth place with 3-2 record. Santa Maria lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with five games lost. Caballeros will play against Rincon dC (#5) in Babahoyo in the next round.
