Manabi - Santa Maria 81-88 An interesting game for Santa Maria (4-0) which played road game in Portviejo against their biggest opponent Manabi (2-2). Top-ranked Santa Maria managed to get a 7-point victory 88-81. Santa Maria players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international point guard Martin Martinez (182-95) who helped to win the game recording a triple-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals and Venezuelan Darwin Sanz (-90) who added 27 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Five Santa Maria players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Telvin Gabriel (198-94, college: Lander) responded with 23 points and 9 rebounds and forward Mairon Cuero (190-89) scored 22 points and 9 rebounds. Manabi's coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Santa Maria have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 4-0 record. Manabi at the other side keeps the second place with two games lost. Santa Maria will play against bottom-ranked Triple E-Uda (#4) in Gualaceo in the next round. Manabi will play on the road against Guerreros in Santo Domingo and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Guerreros were crushed by Triple E-Uda on the road 57-77. Triple E-Uda forced 34 Guerreros turnovers. Strangely Guerreros outrebounded Triple E-Uda 62-49 including 16 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 4 passes made by Guerreros' players. Worth to mention a great performance of Cristian Ulloa (-98) who helped to win the game recording 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Hector Molina (-94) contributed with 13 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Center Michael Torres (-2) replied with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 25 rebounds and Neudy Reyes (-86) added 10 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Guerreros. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Triple E-Uda left bottom position moving up to third place, which they share with defeated Guerreros. Triple E-Uda is looking forward to face league's leader Santa Maria in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Guerreros will play against the league's second-placed Manabi and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
