Liga Mayor Round 7 (Regular Season): LMMR 2 lose to Batanecas in the game between Top 4 teams

Very significant was Batanecas' (#2, 6-2) victory against 4th placed LMMR 2 (3-4) 90-70. Batanecas dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to LMMR 2's 40. They outrebounded LMMR 2 51-29 including a 36-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Batanecas looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for Cuban center Rachel Contreras (184-1999) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 21 rebounds. Cuban guard Maria Montero (176-1998) helped adding 11 points and 13 assists. At the losing side guard Vanessa Hernandez (157-1997) responded with 27 points and 6 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Batanecas maintains second place with 6-2 record behind leader San Salvador. LMMR 2 at the other side keeps the fourth position with four games lost. Batanecas are looking forward to face Santa Tecla 2 (#5) on the road in the next round. LMMR 2 will play against Salvadorenas 2 and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

It was a quality performance for Cuban center Yayma Boulet (193-1984) who led the winners and scored 23 points and 6 rebounds. Arlenys Romero accounted for 21 points and 7 assists. Guard Melany Sanchez (167-2004) came up with 13 points and 8 rebounds for Santa Tecla 2 in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Bexy Claro fired a double-double by scoring 29 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Salvadorenas 2's coach felt very confident using 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Sofia Zavala produced 6 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists for lost side. The victory was the third consecutive win for Salvadorenas 2. They maintain third place with 4-2 record having four points less than leader San Salvador. Santa Ana 2 lost their eighth game in a row. They still close the standings with eight games lost. Salvadorenas 2 will meet at home LMMR 2 (#4) in the next round. Santa Ana 2 will play against the league's leader San Salvador and hopes to get finally their first victory.
