Liga Mayor Round 6 (Regular Season): Ahuachapan still not able to record any victory

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

Bottom-ranked Ahuachapan is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their sixth consecutive match to fourth ranked Batanecas (4-2) 103-68 on Saturday evening. Batanecas forced 32 Ahuachapan turnovers and outrebounded them 58-37 including a 25-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for Cuban center Rachel Contreras (184-1999) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 20 rebounds. Cuban guard Maria Montero (176-1998) contributed with 23 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals for the winners. Batanecas' coach Joel Lozano felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cuban point guard Dairis Tornell (176-1992) replied with 31 points and 9 rebounds for Ahuachapan. Batanecas moved-up to third place, which they share with Santa Tecla 2. Ahuachapan at the other side still closes the standings with six games lost.

Point guard Fatima Aviles (161-1999) had a double-double by scoring 10 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Silvia Vega chipped in 18 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was Cuban point guard Dairis Tornell (176-1992) with 34 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds. Salvadorenas 2 maintains fifth position with 3-3 record. Ahuachapan at the other side still closes the standings with six games lost.
The game in Santa Ana was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Batanecas (4-2) played at the court of 6th ranked LMMR 2 (2-5). Batanecas did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 76-57 on Sunday. Rachel Contreras notched a double-double by scoring 22 points and 24 rebounds to lead the effort. Even a double-double of 14 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists by Eugenia Fraguela did not help to save the game for LMMR 2. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Batanecas moved-up to third place, which they share with Santa Tecla 2. LMMR 2 lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh position with five games lost.

In the last two games of round 6 Santa Ana 2 was beaten by Santiagueno on the road 72-60. Metapan destroyed Santiagueno on its own court 79-51.

Santiagueno - Santa Ana 2 72-60

Everything could happen in Usultan at the game between two tied teams. Both sixth ranked Santiagueno and 8th ranked Santa Ana 2 had identical 1-4 record. This time Santiagueno used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from 72-60 on Saturday night. Santiagueno outrebounded Santa Ana 2 50-30 including a 34-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Santiagueno looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Santa Ana 2's players. Mexican Gema Roa notched a double-double by scoring 23 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the effort and center Margarita Pinto (179-1989) supported her with 19 points and 17 rebounds. Santiagueno's coach Marvin Dominguez used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 34 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds by Monica Aristondo (163-1992) did not help to save the game for Santa Ana 2. Forward Angelica Dominguez (164-1984) added 8 points and 4 steals. Santiagueno maintains sixth position with 2-4 record. Loser Santa Ana 2 keeps the eighth place with five games lost.

Metapan - Santiagueno 79-51

Very expected game when 6th ranked Santiagueno (2-4) was smashed on the road by top-ranked Metapan (5-0) 79-51 on Sunday. American point guard Britney Jones (174-1987, college: UAB) notched 13 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists to lead the effort and Cuban center Yayma Boulet (193-1984) supported her with 22 points and 6 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Four Metapan players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 14 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists by Mexican Gema Roa did not help to save the game for Santiagueno. Guatemalan point guard Astrid Garcia (165-1995) added 18 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Metapan have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 5-0 record behind leader San Salvador. Loser Santiagueno keeps the sixth place with four games lost.
