Liga Mayor Round 7 (Regular Season): San Salvador lose to Metapan

Host teams show no mercy winning all games. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The biggest surprise took place in Metapan where host Metapan (6-0) beat league's leader San Salvador (6-1) 81-63 on Thursday evening. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of San Salvador. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Cuban center Yayma Boulet (193-1984) fired a double-double by scoring 29 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. American point guard Britney Jones (174-1987, college: UAB) chipped in 14 points, 15 rebounds and 8 assists. Cuban Anisleidys Galindo (181-1989) produced a double-double by scoring 26 points and 19 rebounds for lost side. San Salvador's coach Rainel Panfet rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Undefeated Metapan have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. San Salvador at the other side dropped to the second place with one game lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Metapan. San Salvador will play next round against Santa Ana 2 trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Metapan will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Batanecas at home.
Bottom-ranked Ahuachapan (0-7) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 118-55 loss to sixth ranked LMMR 2 (3-5) in Santa Ana. Worth to mention a great performance of Cuban Eugenia Fraguela (-1996) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!) and 19 rebounds. Liset Valdes contributed with 23 points and 22 rebounds for the winners. LMMR 2's coach Alexander Colocho felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cuban point guard Dairis Tornell (176-1992) answered with 35 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds for Ahuachapan. LMMR 2 maintains sixth place with 3-5 record. Ahuachapan lost their seventh game in a row. They still close the standings with seven games lost. LMMR 2 will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Ahuachapan will play at home against Santa Tecla 2 (#4) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

In the last two games of round 7 Santiagueno was defeated by Batanecas in a road game 63-51. Salvadorenas 2 smashed Santa Ana 2 at home 71-46.

Batanecas - Santiagueno 63-51

There was no surprise when 6th ranked Santiagueno (2-5) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked Batanecas (5-2) 63-51. Batanecas outrebounded Santiagueno 49-34 including a 19-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of Cuban center Rachel Contreras (184-1999) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points and 18 rebounds. Forward Nicky Ayala (171-2005) contributed with 15 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Guatemalan point guard Astrid Garcia (165-1995) answered with 16 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and Mexican Gema Roa added 11 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Santiagueno. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Batanecas. They moved-up to third place. Santiagueno at the other side dropped to the seventh position with five games lost. Batanecas will play against league's leader Metapan on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Santiagueno will play against Salvadorenas 2 (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Salvadorenas 2 - Santa Ana 2 71-46

No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Salvadorenas 2 (4-3) smashed at home 8th ranked Santa Ana 2 (1-6) 71-46. Salvadorenas 2 dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Santa Ana 2's 28. Salvadorenas 2 forced 34 Santa Ana 2 turnovers and outrebounded them 54-41 including 17 on the offensive glass. Salvadorenas 2 brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of center Silvia Vega (176-2003) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!). Cuban forward Eilen Gilbert (183-1998) contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Monica Aristondo (163-1992) answered with 31 points and 9 rebounds and Cibeles Miranda (175-1988) added 3 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Santa Ana 2. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Salvadorenas 2 maintains fifth place with 4-3 record. Santa Ana 2 at the other side keeps the eighth position with six games lost. Salvadorenas 2 will play against Santiagueno (#7) in Usultan in the next round. Santa Ana 2 will play at home against the league's second-placed San Salvador to get more than just one victory in their record.

LMMR 2 - Ahuachapan 118-55

Bottom-ranked Ahuachapan (0-7) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 118-55 loss to sixth ranked LMMR 2 (3-5) in Santa Ana. They dominated down low during the game scoring 100 of its points in the paint compared to Ahuachapan's 44. LMMR 2 forced 32 Ahuachapan turnovers and outrebounded them 62-32 including a 27-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of Cuban Eugenia Fraguela (-1996) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!) and 19 rebounds. Liset Valdes contributed with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 22 rebounds for the winners. Four LMMR 2 players scored in double figures.
