Liga Mayor Round 11 (Regular Season): Metapan lose to San Salvador

Coincidentally all hosts won their games. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The biggest surprise took place in San Salvador where host San Salvador (11-1) beat league's leader Metapan (10-1) 77-73 on Thursday evening. It ended at the same time the ten-game winning streak of Metapan. It was a key game for the top position in the league. San Salvador looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was Cuban point guard Arlenys Romero (176-1984) who scored 32 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Cuban Anisleidys Galindo (181-1989) chipped in 23 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Cuban center Yayma Boulet (193-1984) produced a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!) and 21 rebounds for the guests. San Salvador have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Metapan at the other side dropped to the second place with one game lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by San Salvador. Metapan will play next round against strong Salvadorenas 2 trying to make it back to the top of the standings. San Salvador will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Ahuachapan on the road.
The game had a very big importance for second-ranked San Salvador as it allowed them to take a leadership position. San Salvador smashed 8th ranked Santa Ana 2 at home 84-52. Adriana Rivas (176-1996) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points and 7 rebounds. Anisleidys Galindo contributed with 15 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. San Salvador's coach Rainel Panfet felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Monica Aristondo (163-1992) answered with 29 points and 6 steals for Santa Ana 2. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for San Salvador. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Santa Ana 2 at the other side keeps the eighth place with ten games lost. Santa Ana 2 will play next round against Santiagueno trying to get back on the winning streak. San Salvador will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Ahuachapan on the road.
The game in Santa Ana was also quite interesting. 4th placed Salvadorenas 2 (7-5) played at the court of sixth ranked LMMR 2 (5-6). LMMR 2 managed to secure a 9-point victory 72-63 on Tuesday. It was a great evening for Eugenia Fraguela who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists. Eilen Gilbert responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 15 rebounds. Salvadorenas 2's coach Ray Santana rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. LMMR 2 maintains sixth place with 5-6 record. Loser Salvadorenas 2 dropped to the third position with five games lost. LMMR 2 will meet higher ranked Batanecas (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Salvadorenas 2 will play against the league's second-placed Metapan and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last game of round 11 bottom-ranked Ahuachapan was crushed by Salvadorenas 2 in a road game 112-79.

Salvadorenas 2 - Ahuachapan 112-79

There was no surprise when 9th ranked Ahuachapan (1-10) was crushed on the road by fourth ranked Salvadorenas 2 (7-5) 112-79 on Friday. Salvadorenas 2 dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Ahuachapan's 46. Salvadorenas 2 forced 28 Ahuachapan turnovers and outrebounded them 48-34 including a 24-12 advantage in offensive rebounds. Salvadorenas 2 looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Ahuachapan's players. It was a great evening for Cuban forward Eilen Gilbert (183-1998) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 18 rebounds. Point guard Fatima Aviles (161-1999) helped adding 24 points and 7 assists. Four Salvadorenas 2 players scored in double figures. Coach Ray Santana's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Cuban point guard Dairis Tornell (176-1992) responded with 31 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and Cuban guard Elianis Armenteros (175-2000) scored 30 points and 8 rebounds. Salvadorenas 2 moved-up to third place. Loser Ahuachapan stay at the bottom position with ten games lost. Salvadorenas 2 will meet league's second-placed Metapan on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Ahuachapan will play against the league's leader San Salvador (#1) and hope to win that game.
