Liga Mayor Round 13 (Regular Season): Ahuachapan tries to escape the last position defeating LMMR 2

Bottom-ranked Ahuachapan managed to get a second victory, breaking the series of three consecutive losses on Tuesday night. This time they won against sixth-ranked LMMR 2 107-102. Ahuachapan made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Cuban guard Elianis Armenteros (175-2000) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 54 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners and Cuban point guard Dairis Tornell (176-1992) chipped in 40 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 assists (on 16-of-18 shooting from the field). At the losing side Cuban Eugenia Fraguela (-1996) responded with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 13 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Ahuachapan (2-12) moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Santiagueno. LMMR 2 at the other side keeps the sixth position with nine games lost. Ahuachapan is looking forward to face higher ranked Santa Tecla 2 (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. LMMR 2 will have a break next round.

The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Metapan have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 14-1 record. Santa Tecla 2 at the other side keeps the fifth position with eight games lost. Metapan will play against Batanecas (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Santa Tecla 2 will play against Ahuachapan and hopes to get back on the winning track.
The game in Usultan supposed to be also quite interesting. Third ranked Batanecas (10-4) played at the court of 8th ranked Santiagueno (2-12). Batanecas smashed Santiagueno 90-38 on Wednesday. Maria Montero fired a double-double by scoring 28 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Astrid Garcia produced 9 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists for lost side. Batanecas have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain third place with 10-4 record having five points less than leader Metapan. Santiagueno lost ninth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with 12 games lost. They share it with Ahuachapan. Batanecas will meet at home league's leader Metapan in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Santiagueno will play against Salvadorenas 2 (#4) and hope to secure a win.

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Santa Ana where 5th ranked Santa Tecla 2 (7-8) was defeated by sixth ranked LMMR 2 (7-9) 71-63 on Friday. LMMR 2 made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. LMMR 2 outrebounded Santa Tecla 2 64-36 including a 21-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. Cuban Eugenia Fraguela (-1996) fired a double-double by scoring 27 points, 23 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of her thirteen free throws !!!) for the winners. Liset Valdes chipped in 6 points, 26 rebounds and 6 blocks.
