Liga Mayor Round 12 (Regular Season): No surprise as #1 San Salvador defeat Santa Tecla 2

Liga Mayor top team - San Salvador (11-0) had no problems winning another game on Thursday. This time they crushed eighth ranked Santa Tecla 2 (2-9) 96-51. San Salvador outrebounded Santa Tecla 2 48-32 including 16 on the offensive glass. San Salvador looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Worth to mention a quality performance of Cuban point guard Arlenys Romero (176-1984) who helped to win the game recording 26 points and 5 assists and Cuban Anisleidys Martinez (181-1989) who added 19 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was forward Camila Lima (172-2003) with 6 points and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated San Salvador have an impressive 11-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 11-0 record. Santa Tecla 2 lost seventh consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with nine games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
The game in Santa Tecla was also worth to mention about. Second ranked Batanecas (8-2) played at the court of 8th ranked Santa Tecla 2 (2-9). Batanecas did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 75-56. The winners were led by Cuban center Rachel Contreras (184-1999) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 18 points, 20 rebounds and 4 assists and Maria Montero supported her with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 12 assists. Even 24 points and 9 rebounds by Cuban guard Elianis Armenteros (175-2000) did not help to save the game for Santa Tecla 2. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Batanecas maintains second position with 8-2 record having four points less than leader San Salvador. Santa Tecla 2 lost seventh consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with nine games lost. Batanecas will play against PSN (#6) in the next round. Santa Tecla 2 will have a break next round.

Rather expected game when 7th ranked Ahuachapan (2-8) was defeated on the road by fifth ranked Santa Ana 2 (5-5) 96-90. Santa Ana 2 players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists. The winners were led by Monica Aristondo (163-1992) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 18 points, 17 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals and guard Vanessa Ruiz (160-2006) supported her with 31 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Even a triple-double of 34 points (!!!), 20 rebounds and 10 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) by Vanessa Bautista did not help to save the game for Ahuachapan. Dominican Yenifer Jimenez (163-1999) added 42 points (!!!), 11 rebounds, 10 assists and 5 steals. Santa Ana 2 moved-up to fourth place.
