An interesting game for Salvadorenas (3-1) which hosted in one of their biggest challengers Santa Tecla (3-2). Second ranked Salvadorenas had an easy win 81-62. Salvadorenas dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Santa Tecla's 30. Salvadorenas looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of center Silvia Vega (176-2003) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points, 18 rebounds and 6 assists. Forward Gabriela Alfaro (167-2004) contributed with 19 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. Cuban guard Elianis Armenteros (175-2000, agency: Interperformances) replied with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for Santa Tecla. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Salvadorenas maintains second position with 3-1 record behind leader San Salvador. At the losing side Cuban point guard Dairis Tornell (176-1992) responded with 15 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Santa Tecla maintains third position with 3-2 record behind leader San Salvador. Santa Ana lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth place with three games lost. Santa Tecla will play against bottom-ranked Capitalinas (#6) in the next round. Santa Ana will play against Capitalinas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Liga Mayor top team - San Salvador (4-0) had no problems winning another game on Wednesday. This time they crushed sixth ranked Capitalinas (0-4) 85-29. The winners were led by Arlenys Romero who scored that evening 30 points and 6 rebounds. Even 6 points and 9 rebounds by Alejandra Martinez did not help to save the game for Capitalinas. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. San Salvador have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 4-0 record. Loser Capitalinas still closes the standings with four games lost. San Salvador will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Capitalinas will play against Santa Tecla (#3) and hope to get finally their first victory.
