Chile - Cuba 61-88
Cuba cruised past Chile to improve at 3-0 record on top of Group A. Clenia Noblet (190-C-87) finished with 16 points and 8 caroms for the winning side. Cuba led by just 7 points at the interval 37:30. However they unloaded 51 points in the second half and marched to a well-deserved win at the end. Yamara Amargo (179-PF-85) posted 15 points for the winners. Barbara Cousino (178-F-96) responded with 16 points for Chile who played without their leader Ziomara Morrison.
Dominican Republic - Puerto Rico 56-64
Puerto Rico celebrated the first victory in Edmonton. They nipped Dominican Republic for 1-2 record in Group A. Sandra Garcia (190-C-90, college: Wake Forest) notched 16 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Puerto Rico grabbed a 31:28 halftime lead. Dominican Republic pulled ahead for a one-point lead at the final intermission. But Puerto Rico bounced back with a 22:13 run in the fourth frame to seal the win. Ali Gibson (180-G/F-93) delivered 11 points in the victory. Cheisy Hernandez and Genesis Evangelista (170-PG-93) responded with 16 points each for Dominican Republic.
Group B
U.S. Virgin Islands - Brazil 58-72
Brazil stormed past US Virgin Islands for the third consecutive victory in Group B. Nadia Gomes Calhado (193-C-89, agency: FirstPick Basketball Mngm) came up with 15 points and 9 rebounds to pace the winners. Brazil piled up a 39:31 halftime lead. They went on a 22:11 run in the third term to take an unassailable lead at the final intermission. Isabela Lyra (180-F-94, agency: FirstPick Basketball Mngm) provided 12 points for the winners. Victoria Hamilton (178-G-91) responded with 16 points and 11 rebounds for US Virgin Islands.
Venezuela - Argentina 55-71
Argentina remained perfect in Edmonton. They outgunned Venezuela for 3-0 record in Group B. Gisela Vega (188-C-82, agency: Josep and Nicolas) accounted for 16 points and 8 rebounds to pace the charge. Argentina jumped to a 22:9 lead ten minutes into the encounter. Venezuela stopped the bleeding in the second frame and pulled within 7 points at halftime. But Argentina unloaded 26 points in the third quarter to clear off for good. Macarena Rosset (178-G/F-91, agency: Players Group) netted 14 points in the victory. Roselis Silva (166-PG-91, college: Arkansas Tech, agency: Gamble Sports Management) responded with 13 points for Venezuela.
