U.S. Virgin Islands - Argentina 48-80
Argentina fired past US Virgin Islands at the start of the championship. Andrea Boquete (183-F-90) produced 17 points in the win. Argentina piled up a 32:21 halftime lead. They followed with a 34:7 run in the third term to clear off for good. Melisa Gretter (161-PG-93, agency: ProDep Management) and Macarena Durso (169-G-91) produced 14 points each in the win. Imani Tate (173-G-95, agency: LBM Management) replied with 19 points and 8 boards for Virgin Islands.

Brazil - Venezuela 71-63
Brazil held off Venezuela in the opener. Tatiane Pacheco and Gilmara Justino (191-C-81) scored 12 points each to lead the winners. Brazil grabbed a 33:24 halftime lead. They extended the margin at 15-point mark at the final intermission and never looked back en route to the win. Kelly Santos (192-C-79, agency: Interperformances) had 9 points in the victory. Waleska Perez (180-SG-94, college: Weatherford JC) responded with 21 points for Venezuela.

Cuba - Canada 35-81
Canada overwhelmed Cuba to take 1-0 record in Group B. Nirra Fields (175-G-93, college: UCLA) tallied 18 points for the North American side. Canada piled up a 50:18 halftime lead. They cruised to the victory after the long break. Ruth Hamblin (198-C-94, college: Oregon St., agency: LBM Management) tossed in 15 points and collected 10 rebounds in the win. Anisleidys Galindo (181-SG-89) answered with 12 points for Cuba.

Puerto Rico - Mexico 69-49
Puerto Rico overcame Mexico to open win count in Buenos Aires. Ali Gibson (180-G/F-93, college: Oregon St.) recorded 13 points to lead well-balanced effort for Puerto Rico. They posted a 43:21 halftime lead. Puerto Rico limited Mexico to just 28 points in the second half and rolled to the victory. Tayra Melendez (180-G-93, college: Rhode Island, agency: Gamble Sports Management) and Marie Placido had 9 points each for the winners. Jacqueline Luna-Castro (188-F-93, college: Charleston) produced 16 points and 11 rebounds for Mexico.
