Group AColombia - Brazil 47-68Brazil cruised past Colombia for the second straight win at the championship. Leticia Rodriguez stepped up with 13 points and 17 rebounds to pace the effort. Brazil grabbed a 33:20 halftime lead. They outscored Colombia in the next two quarters and raced to the win. Gilmara Justino (191-C-81) netted 11 points in the victory. Tathiana Mosquera (196-C/F-89) and Jenifer Munoz (170-G-91) tossed in 13 points each for Colombia. Venezuela - U.S. Virgin Islands 53-79 Virgin Islands opened win count in Group A. They upset Venezuela for 1-1 record. Imani Tate (173-G-95, agency: LBM Management) provided 26 points and 7 rebounds to lead the effort. Virgin Islands ensured a 32:24 halftime lead. They went on a 19:10 run in the third term to clear off. Virgin Islands sank 28 points in the fourth quarter to seal the win. Victoria Hamilton (178-G-91) had 18 points in the victory. Sharol Renault (170-PG-86) and Daniela Wallen (180-F-95, college: Oklahoma City) responded with 12 points each for Venezuela. Group BCanada - Puerto Rico 75-59Canada dropped Puerto Rico to improve at 2-0 record in Buenos Aires. Kia Nurse (183-G-96) tallied 17 points and 8 rebounds in the victory. Canada led from start to finish. They posted a 38:29 halftime lead. They ignited a 19:12 run in the third term to clear off for good. Katherine Plouffe (190-F-92, college: Marquette) chipped in 14 points in the victory. Ali Gibson (180-G/F-93, college: Oregon St.) answered with 16 points for Puerto Rico. Paraguay - Cuba 69-66 Paraguay outscored Cuba in the opener. Paola Ferrari (178-G/F-85, college: Union, TN, agency: ProDep Management) stepped up with 27 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge. Cuba dominated in the first half. They piled up a 40:33 halftime advantage. But Paraguay went on a 22:10 run in the third term to turn things around. Cuba got within striking distance late in the game but could not avoid the loss. Claudia Aponte (175-G-91, agency: ProDep Management) delivered 10 points for the winners. Ineidis Casanova (165-PG-88, agency: Pro Sports) and Leidis Oquendo (180-F-82, agency: Pro Sports) produced 14 points each for Cuba. |
