Group AVenezuela - Colombia 59-62Colombia recorded the second win in Buenos Aires as they rallied past Venezuela. Mabel Martinez accounted for 19 points for the winners. Colombia eked out a 31:28 halftime lead. They went on a 21:14 rally in the third term to boost the margin at 10-point mark. Venezuela could not overcome the deficit in the final stanza as Colombia marched to the win. Tathiana Mosquera (196-C/F-89) and Maria Palacios (163-G-85) had 10 points each in the victory. Ivaney Marquez (177-SF-83, college: Grayson County CC) replied with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists for Venezuela. Argentina - Brazil 68-49 Argentina finished the preliminary round on a high note. They outgunned Brazil for the fourth straight win. Debora Gonzalez (170-PG-90, agency: Players Group) scored 18 points to lead the winners. Argentina established a 38:23 halftime lead. They followed with a 22:15 run in the third term to clear off for good. Andrea Boquete (183-F-90) had 16 points for the winners. Gilmara Justino (191-C-81) answered with 18 points and 9 boards for Brazil. Group BCanada - Paraguay 86-64Canada registered the fourth straight win in Group B. They stormed past Paraguay to stay unbeaten. Nirra Fields (175-G-93, college: UCLA) provided 25 points and 10 rebounds in the victory. Canada posted a 26:14 lead at the first break. They went on a 45:27 second half rally to ice the win. Katherine Plouffe (190-F-92, college: Marquette) contributed 12 points for the North American side. Paola Ferrari (178-G/F-85, college: Union, TN, agency: ProDep Management) responded with 14 points for Paraguay. Mexico - Cuba 51-62 Cuba opened win count in Buenos Aires. They topped Mexico in the final game of the preliminary round. Ineidis Casanova stepped up with 16 points and 9 assists for the winning side. Mexico enjoyed a 25:23 halftime advantage. But Cuba used a 22:9 rally in the third term to spur ahead. They protected the advantage throughout the final stanza and eased to the victory. Anisleidys Galindo and Francy Ochoa (185-F-90) had 12 points each for the winners. Jacqueline Luna-Castro (188-F-93, college: Charleston) and Gabriela Saad (165-G-91) tossed in 11 points each for Mexico. |
