Canada - U.S. Virgin Islands 101-41
Canada claimed the first victory in the tournament. They drubbed US Virgin Islands in the opener. Shaina Pellington (173-G-99) scored 16 points to lead the winners. Canada grabbed a 48-13 halftime lead. They dropped 37 points in the fourth term to ease to the victory. Jamie Weisner-Scott (178-SF-94, college: Oregon St., agency: LBM Management) and Nirra Fields (175-G-93, college: UCLA, agency: LBM Management) finished with 14 points each for the winners. Molina Williams (183-F-01) had 10 points in the loss.
USA - Dominican Republic 102-39
USA beat Dominican Republic to open win count at the tournament. USA ensured a 47-23 halftime lead. They followed with a strong 20-2 run in the third period to clear off for good. Destanni Henderson came up with 17 points, while Elissa Cunane (196-C-00) and Sedona Prince (201-F-00) chipped in 12 points apiece for the winners. Elemy Colome (173-G-96) netted 11 points for Dominican Republic.
Colombia - Brazil 56-79
Brazil earned the second win in San Juan. They rallied past Colombia to stay perfect. Taina Paixao (175-G-91) accounted for 17 points for the winners. Colombia enjoyed a 28-27 halftime lead. But Brazil unloaded 52 points in the second half and rolled to the victory. Patty Teixeira (175-G/F-90) had 13 points for the winning side. Manuela Rios (165-F-97) answered with 18 points for Colombia.
Argentina - Puerto Rico 56-79
Puerto Rico topped Argentina for the second straight win in San Juan. The hosts led from start to finish. They established a comfortable 23-8 lead after ten minutes. They stretched the margin at 26-point mark at the big break 51-25. Argentina managed to narrow the gap in the second but never really threatened the home side at the end. Jennifer O'Neill (165-PG-90, college: Kentucky, agency: LBM Management) provided 20 points, while Isalys Quinones (190-C/F-97, college: Dartmouth) had 13 points in the victory. Victoria Gauna (185-PF-01) banked in 13 points for Argentina.
