2025 FIBA AmeriCup Pre-Qualifiers: Costa Rica beat El Salvador in overtime opener

Costa Rica beat El Salvador 101-97 in the 2025 FIBA AmeriCup Pre-Qualifiers opener. The latter grabbed a 23-17 lead at the start and enjoyed a 12-point advantage at the halftime. Moreover, they posted a 22-13 rally in the third quarter, whilst Costa Rica exploded with a 33-12 surge in the fourth period to tie it all at 73-73. Both teams notched 15 points each in the first overtime and then Costa Rica needed a 13-9 run in the second overtime to seal the win.
David Shedden (197-F-1995) top-scored for the winners with 22 points and Isaac Conejo (182-PG-1994) netted 17. Kay Martinez (198-G-1984, college: Jackson St.) posted 16 points, whilst Carlos Quesada (198-C-1985) had 14. Roberto Martinez (1991) replied with 28 points in the losing effort.
