The hosts successfully opened FIBA Women's AmeriCup journey as Mexico overcame Dominican Republic 69:62 in Leon. Dominican Republic started with a 19-14 run, whilst Mexico replied with a 20-11 surge in the second frame. Dominican Republic once again won the third quarter as Esmery Martinez (188-F) closed the period at 48-47. Mexico meanwhile won the last stanza 21-15 to seal the win. Sofia Payan (167-SF-2000) stepped up with 15 points for the winners and Claudia Ramos (183-G-1997, college: CSUN) poured in 10. Esmery Martinez answered with 18 points in a loss and Cesarina Capellan (178-SF-2003) netted 14.
