Chile - USA 47-108 Team USA overpowered Chile with a 108-47 win, improving to 1-0 in Group B. Raegan Beers (193-C-2002) led the American side with 22 points and 7 rebounds, earning an efficiency rating of 31. Joyce Edwards (190-F-2006) added 19 points and 6 rebounds, while Mikayla Blakes (173-G-2005) contributed 15 points and 2 assists. Hannah Hidalgo (168-G-2005) scored 14 points and dished out 4 assists, and Gianna Kneepkens (183-G-2003) had 12 points and 4 rebounds. All but one player from the United States got on the scoresheet. For Chile, Valentina Ojeda (183-F-2003, college: VCU) led with 11 points and 4 rebounds. Damaris Alarcon (167-PG-2003) chipped in 7 points, while Barbara Cousino (178-F-1996), Jovanka Ljubetic (176-F-2000, agency: LBM Management), and Antonia Andaur (SG-2002) each added 6 points. Chile remains winless at 0-2 in Group B. Dominican Republic - El Salvador 61-59 The Dominican Republic made a strong debut with a 61-59 win over El Salvador in Group A. Cesarina Capellan (178-SF-2003) led the way with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 assists. Glorivel Rodriguez (163-PG-2004) added 17 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double of her own. El Salvador put up a strong fight behind Hillary Martinez (172-SF-1997), who finished with 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists. Kim Villalobos (188-F-2001) recorded 12 points and 13 rebounds, while Gabriela Escobar (162-G-2007) added 10 points. Despite the effort, El Salvador drops to 0-2 record. Canada - Argentina 71-48 Canada moved to 2-0 in Group A with a convincing 71-48 victory over Argentina. Shayeann Day-Wilson (168-G-2003, agency: GSE Worldwide) paced the Canadians with 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. Syla Swords (183-G-2006) added 11 points and 5 rebounds, while Yvonne Ejim (185-F-2002, college: Gonzaga) grabbed 12 rebounds along with 8 points and 2 assists. Andrea Boquete (183-SF-1990) led Argentina with 12 points, and Candela Gentinetta (181-SF-2001) had 10 points and 6 rebounds. Canada dominated the rebounding battle with 43 boards to Argentina's 27, handing the South Americans their second loss of the tournament. Mexico - Chile 76-59 Mexico opened their campaign with a 76-59 win over host Chile in Group B. Myriam Lara (188-F/C-1994) scored 24 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and blocked 3 shots. Gabriela Jaquez (183-F-2003) followed with 22 points and 5 rebounds, while Anisa Jeffreis (175-F-2004) added 13 points and 7 boards. Jovanka Ljubetic led Chile with 24 points, and Barbara Cousino added 12 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. However, Chile struggled inside, making just 9 of 27 two-point shots. Mexico was stronger on the glass, finishing with 38 rebounds to Chile's 29. |
