USA continued its dominant run with an 80-43 win over Colombia, improving to 2-0 in Group B. The Americans overwhelmed their opponent on the glass with 57 total rebounds, including 23 on the offensive end, compared to Colombia's 28. Mikayla Blakes (173-G-2005) scored 15 points with 2 rebounds and 2 assists, while Joyce Edwards (190-F-2006) added 13 points and 9 rebounds. Raegan Beers (193-C-2002) contributed 7 points and 10 rebounds. On the Colombian side, Valentina Lopez (175-G-1994) finished with 10 points and Carolina Lopez (188-G-1998) had 6. Colombia struggled with just 9 two-point field goals on 38 attempts (23.7%). Argentina - Dominican Republic 67-51 Argentina picked up their first victory with a 67-51 result against Dominican Republic, improving to 1-2 in Group A. Florencia Chagas (180-PG-2001) led the way with 23 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists. Diana Cabrera (186-C-1993) pulled down 15 rebounds and added 7 points, while Agostina Burani (186-F/C-1991) chipped in 7 points and 8 boards. For the Dominican side, Cesarina Capellan (178-SF-2003) scored 17 points. Both teams now hold 1-1 records in the group. Brazil - Canada 74-65 In a high-stakes clash, Brazil remained unbeaten by defeating Canada 74-65. With this result, Brazil now leads Group A at 2-0 while Canada drops to 2-1. Damiris Dantas (191-F-1992) had a monster performance with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Kamilla Cardoso (201-C-2001, college: S.Carolina) also posted a double-double with 19 points and 11 boards, while Vitoria Marcelino (181-PF-1996) added 11 points. Brazil had a significant advantage from the free throw line (24/30), and also outrebounded Canada 40 to 34. Kayla Alexander (193-C-1991, college: Syracuse) led Canada with 10 points and 12 rebounds, and Shayeann Day-Wilson (168-G-2003, agency: GSE Worldwide) scored 14. Colombia - Mexico 71-60 In the final game of the day, Colombia defeated Mexico 71-60 to claim their first win in Group B (1-2). Excellent perimeter shooting proved to be the difference. Colombia hit 9-of-19 from long range (47.4%), while Mexico struggled with 7-of-27 (25.9%). Colombia also had a better percentage on two-pointers. Manuela Rios (163-G-1997) led with 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. Yuliany Paz (195-C-2000) had 11 points and 8 rebounds, and Valentina Lopez also scored 11. For Mexico, Hazel Ramirez (165-PG-1992, college: LMU) posted 15 points, while Anisa Jeffreis (175-F-2004) had a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Gabriela Jaquez (183-F-2003) added 8 points and 10 boards. |
