USA outsmarted Brazil 81-78 winning the Gold in San Antonio. USA had to work
very hard in order to take the Big Final and they made it. It means that USA
finished FIBA Americas U18 Championship with perfect 5-0 record. Silver medal
belongs to Brazil. It is important to mention that both teams booked a spot for
2011 FIBA U19 World Championship.
Kyrie Irving (191-G) shined for USA with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 5
assists. He was the MVP of this meeting with valuation 28.
Austin Rivers (191-G) helped with 19 points, while
Vander Blue (191-G) added 13.

12 boards. In Brazil,

on fire, but Canadians scored 28, while USA stopped on 24 pts. However, that was
not enough for Canada as
Kyrie Irving and his teammates exploded in the last ten minutes taking the
Gold medal on this prestigious event. In 2008, USA failed in the Finals against

Canada - Argentina

Kyle Wiltjer (206-C) made a three pointer with 1.7 seconds left in overtime
to give Canada an 86-83 win to get the Bronze medal in the 2010 FIBA Americas
U18 Championship. Argentina, who won the Americas title in 2008, this time
finished as No.4. Both countries qualified for the 2011 FIBA U19 World
Championship.
Kyle Wiltjer was the leading scorer in Canada with 27 points.
Myck Kabongo (188-G-93) secured a nice help and was close to make
triple-double: 15 points, 7 rebounds and 12 assists.

Uruguay - Puerto Rico

Uruguay outplayed Puerto Rico 78-64 to finish as No.5 in San Antonio. Uruguay
ended this event with decent 3-2 record. On the other side, Puerto Rico had only
one victory also in five appearances.
Mathias Calfani (199-C-92) shined for the winners with 32 points and 14
rebounds. Calfani earned the MVP title for this meeting reaching valuation 34.
Ivan Loriente (184-G-92) was the second scorer in Uruguay with 22 pts, while
Luciano Parodi (G-94) added 12. In the loosing squad,
Christopher Ortiz (93) replied with 16 points and 5 boards.
Emmanuel Andujar (92) had 12 pts and 8 boards. Uruguay was slightly better
in the first period ending it 21-19. They took full control on Puerto Rico in

slightly improved in that second half, but that was not enough against tough
Uruguayans. At the end Uruguay celebrated 78-64 victory for the fifth place on
2010 FIBA Americas U18 Championship. Both teams failed to qualify for 2011 FIBA

Mexico - U.S. Virgin Islands

USVI grabbed overtime win against Mexico to avoid the last place at FIBA
Americas U18 Championship in San Antonio. USVI did not disappoint at this event
as they registered 2-3 record. On the other side, Mexico ended winless with 0-5
but they played pretty good in this meeting and were close to take it.
Merwin Potter (93) was the leading scorer in USVI with 22 points.
Aaron Brown (193-G-92) was the MVP in USVI with valuation 21. He collected
20 points and 11 rebounds for 28 minutes on the court.
Javier Martinez (93) followed with 13 pts and 7 rebs. In Mexico,
Kevin Acosta (175-G-91) was good with 27 points and 8 rebounds.
Sergio Panduro (G-93) had 18 pts. USVI took control on Mexico from the very
beginning.
Merwin Potter and his teammates made nice 16-24 lead in the first ten
minutes and until the half time they jumped to 32-42. Mexico drastically
improved after the breather.

USA - Canada

USA blasted Canada and advanced to FIBA Americas U18 Championship Finals. The
powerful USA team scored 122 points in this game, what was more than enough for
comfortable victory. They will meet Brazil in the battle for Gold. On the other
side, Canada will take on Argentina for third place.
Austin Rivers (191-G) was on fire in victory with 35 points. He made 9 of 12
attempts from behind the arc.
Tony Mitchell (198-F) helped his country with 13 points and 9 rebounds,
while
Kyrie Irving (191-G) added 12 pts and 7 assists. In Canada,
Myck Kabongo (188-G-93) shined with 32 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. He
was the MVP of this game with valuation 39.
Singh Bhullar (223-C-94) netted 14 pts. USA took control on their rivals
from the very beginning.
Austin Rivers and his teammates had wonderful first quarter ending it with
37-10 lead. Canada improved after that, especially in offense, but still was not
able to come any closer. Actually, USA won Q2 as well (31-29) and went on the
half time with unreachable lead. USA finished Q3 with 32-22, while the last one
belonged to Canada 22-28. It was clear that USA slowed down in the second half
as they already secured the Finals.
Brazil - Argentina

Brazil was too strong for Argentina in the Semifinals and will meet USA in the
battle for Gold. Brazil stretched its wining streak in San Antonio to four, but
they will take on powerful USA, who also has 4-0 so far. On the other side,
Argentina will fight for third place against Canada. As a reminder, all
semifinalists already booked a spot for 2011 FIBA U19 World Championship.
Lucas Nogueira (212-C-92) paced Brazil to victory with double-double of 16
points and 12 rebounds. He was the MVP of this meeting with valuation 31.
Felipe Taddei (192-G-92) was the second scorer in victory with 11 pts. In
the loosing squad,
Patricio Garino (196-G/F-93) delivered 10 points.
Lucas Machuca (185-G-92) stopped on one less. Argentina was the team who
dominated at the beginning. Argentineans shined in the first quarter taking nice
8-15 lead. Brazil replied with 14-11 in the second period for minus four at the
half time. Third frame was pretty leveled, but it was Brazil who ended it 20-19.
Argentina still had the lead and could not imagine what will happen to them in
the last ten minutes. Brazilians destroyed Argentina with impressive 28-11 and
finished this game with comfortable 70-56 victory! Both, the Big Final and
Bronze medal game are scheduled for Wednesday.

Uruguay - Mexico

Uruguay grabbed the second victory in San Antonio. This time, it was a
Classification Round and Uruguay was better than Mexico. In order to take the
fifth place at this event, Uruguay will have to beat Puerto Rico. On the other
side, if Mexico wants to avoid the last place at FIBA Americas U18 Championship,
they will have to beat U.S. Virgin Islands. Both games are scheduled for
Wednesday.
Ivan Loriente (184-G-92) stepped up for Uruguay in this victory with 26
points.
Mathias Calfani (199-C-92) also was great adding 21 points and 5 boards.
Diego Garcia (183-G-92) (7 rebs, 6 as) and
Juan Modernell (92) added 10 pts each. In Mexico,
Juan Rangel (93) collected 25 points.

dominated in this game from the very beginning.
Ivan Loriente and his teammates played great defense, limiting Mexico to
just 7 points for 10 minutes of play. On the other side, Uruguay drained 28 and
already was 21-point up. During the second frame they jumped to 51-21 and the
game winner was already known. Nothing has changed after the breather, despite
Uruguay already had victory in their pocket. They ended Q3 with 23-19 and the
last one with 32-23 for the final 106-63 win.
U.S. Virgin Islands - Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico made the first step forward to fifth place in San Antonio. The
Puerto Ricans outplayed USVI 79-87 and will meet Uruguay in the last day of the
FIBA Americas U18 Championship. At the same time, USVI will meet Mexico and will
try to avoid the last place at this event.
Christopher Ortiz (93) was the leading player in Puerto Rico with 17 points
and 10 rebounds.
Dejuan Marrero (93) secured a nice help adding 13 pts and 6 boards for the
winners.
Angel Matias (93) (7 rebs) and
Gary Browne (92) helped with 12 points each.
Aaron Brown (193-G-92) shined for the USVI with 31 points and 6 boards. He
reached valuation 25 in this meeting.

the crucial lead in Q1.
Christopher Ortiz and his teammates shined at the both sides of the court
and managed to finish first ten minutes with excellent 13-28. That turned out as
too much for USVI, who managed to cut the deficit for rest of the way, but not
to take the lead. USVI ended Q2 with 20-19 and they also won third period, but
with 17-15 and still needed a way more. Puerto Ricans were calm and they managed
to keep their lead in the last quarter, despite USVI ended it with 29-25. At the
end, nice 79-87 victory for Puerto Rico, who will continue their battle for
position No.7.

Canada - Brazil

Brazil was better than Canada in the last day of the Preliminary Round in San
Antonio. Thanks to this victory Brazil is No.1 of Group A with perfect 3-0
record and will meet Argentina in the Semifinals. On the other side, Canada
dropped to second place with 2-1 score and will take on powerful USA team. Both,
Brazil and Canada, already secured a ticket for 2011 FIBA U19 World
Championship.
Raul Togni (184-G-92) was the MVP of this meeting with impressive valuation
46. He spent 36 minutes on the court collecting 34 points, 8 rebounds and 7
assists.
Lucas Nogueira (212-C-92) also was great helping his team with 13 points and
9 boards.
Felipe Taddei (192-G-92) is another player with 13 pts in this win. In
Canada,

offensively in the last period, which once again belonged to Canada 25-24, but
that was not enough for any better than 78-83 loss. The Semifinals are scheduled
for Tuesday. As mentioned above, Brazill will meet Argentina, while Canada will
play against USA.
Puerto Rico - Uruguay

Uruguay outplayed Puerto Rico in the last day of the Preliminary Round. It means
that Uruguay finished this stage as No.3 in Group A with 1-2 record. On the
other side, Puerto Rico is still winless. Both teams failed to reach the
Semifinals and will continue in classification games (5-8 place).
Ivan Loriente (184-G-92) shined for the winners with 23 points.

Mexico - U.S. Virgin Islands

USVI celebrated the first win in San Antonio. With this one, USVI avoided the
last place in Preliminary Group A (1-2) and will meet Puerto Rico in the first
classification game for 5-8 spot. Mexico is still winless and will play against
Uruguay.
Aaron Brown (193-G-92) was totally the best player in this victory. He spent
34 minutes on the court collecting 39 points and 10 rebounds. With valuation 38,
Brown was the MVP of this meeting.
Rasheed Swanston (95) helped USVI with 12 points, while
Merwin Potter (93) added 10 points and 10 boards. In Mexico,
Kevin Acosta (175-G-91) shined with 22 points.
Jesus Quintero (185-G-92) had 5 points less than him. USVI opened the game
better making 18-23 lead after ten minutes of play. Almost the same picture on
the court was seen in Q2, which belonged to USVI 19-23.

9-point up at the half time. Mexico improved after the breather and fished third
period 23-20, but USVI stopped Mexicans on their way in the last ten minutes.

USA and Argentina met in the last day of Preliminary Round in San Antonio. USA
demonstrated better performance celebrating 67-88 victory and they finished as
No.1 in Group B with perfect 3-0 record. It means that USA will play against
Canada in the Semifinals. Argentina dropped to second place with 2-1 score and
will meet Brazil in the Semis. Both, USA and Argentina, already booked a spot
for 2011 FIBA U19 World Championship.

Puerto Rico - Canada

Canada outplayed Puerto Rico in Day Two of the FIBA Americas U18 Championship.
With this victory the Canadians jumped to 2-0 in Preliminary Group A and not
only that. With this win they secured a spot for the Semifinals and also for the
2011 FIBA U19 World Championship.

minutes on the court registering double-double of 31 points and 10 rebounds.

other side, USVI dropped to 0-2 in Group A with no chance to reach the Semis.

USA had no mercy for Mexico jumping to 2-0 in San Antonio. With this victory the
Americans already secured the Semifinals and a ticket for 2011 FIBA U19 World
Championship. USA had seven players with double-digits in scoring in this game.

Championship. The Canadians blasted Uruguay 76-52 for 1-0 in Preliminary Group

grabbed 7 and 5 rebounds respectively.

Phil Scrubb (191-G) helped their country with 10 points apiece. In the

power at the very beginning.

Brazil had a joyful Day One in San Antonio. The Brazilians outplayed Puerto Rico
for 1-0 in Preliminary Group A, where also Canadians were too strong for Uruguay
yesterday. Lucas Riva Amarante Nogueira was the leading player in victory. He
spent 20 minutes on the court collecting 20 points and 12 rebounds. Nogueira was
the MVP of this meeting with valuation 39. Raul Togni Neto helped with 9 points
and 8 assists, while
Durval Cunha (199-F-92) and Olintho Pereira Abrao Silva also had 9 pts each.
In the loosing squad,

champion from 2008 had an easy job against Mexico celebrating 78-53 victory.
Both teams are placed to Preliminary Group B, together with USA and US Virgin
Islands.
Fernando Podesta (204-C-92) top-scored for the Argentineans with 14 points
and he also grabbed 10 rebounds beside that. Marcos Nicolas Delia helped with 12
points and 5 boards, while
Pablo Perez (202-F-92) added 11 pts. In Mexico, Ruben Uzziel Regalado Corral
collected 12 points.

Championship. Strong USA team is the host of this event (San Antonio) and they
are together with USVI, Argentina and Mexico placed to Preliminary Group B. USA

Merwin Potter (93) stopped to 14. First quarter sent a clear signal who will
be the winner of this game. The powerful USA team drained 35 points for the
opening ten minutes, while stopping ISVI to just 8. The only question until the
end was how much the Americans will score and how big difference it will be.
Second quarter ended 27-20 for USA and third 33-20. The USA team had another
great quarter after that for the final 131-63. In Day Two, USA will play against
Mexico. At the same time, USVI will take on Argentina.
