Guatemala's Liga Metro Apertura has its finalists. Pumas and USAC both closed out their best-of-three semifinal series with decisive Game 3 wins at the Gimnasio Nacional Teodoro Palacio Flores, setting up a title series between the two clubs.
Pumas needed all three games to get past Leones, but there was no drama in the decider a 56-31 rout on July 9 that erased any doubt after Leones had forced a Game 3 with a narrow 54-52 win two days earlier. Sofia Del Cid (164-G) led the way with 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including three triples, Mariandrea Ambelis (176-F) added 16 points and nine rebounds, and Ashley Rosales (173-G-1998) controlled the boards with a monstrous 18-rebound effort alongside four assists. Leones, by contrast, shot just 18 percent from the field as a team; Lourdes Flores (150-PG) led their scoring with seven points on 16 attempts, and Priscila Morgan (160-G) grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds in a losing effort. USAC's path was similarly nip-and-tuck against PSN, with the series swinging back and forth before USAC closed it out 51-42 in Game 3. Giselle Reyes (176-F-2003) paced the winners with 13 points, six rebounds and two steals, Paulina Zuleta (157-PG-1998) added 11 points and six rebounds, and Luisa Rodriguez (178-F-1999) chipped in nine points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Danna Vasquez (177-F/G) was the story for PSN in defeat, pouring in 19 points on 7-of-20 shooting across a full 40 minutes, but he received little support as PSN shot just under 27 percent as a team. With both semifinals settled, Pumas and USAC now meet for the Apertura championship. |
