Liga Metropolitana Round 5: Olmeca hand first defeat to Villa Nueva

Villa Nueva (3-1) recorded its first loss on the court of fourth ranked Olmeca on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Olmeca 96-92. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Villa Nueva. Olmeca forced 19 Villa Nueva turnovers. 24 personal fouls committed by Villa Nueva helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Dylan Castillo who scored 20 points. Edwin Ruiz chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. Center Bernie Diaz (200-81) produced a double-double by scoring 31 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists for the guests. Olmeca moved-up to second place, which they share with defeated Villa Nueva. Olmeca is looking forward to face Halcones (#4) in the next round. Villa Nueva will play against Forza and is hoping to win this game.
Bottom-ranked Monjitas (0-5) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 93-48 loss to fifth ranked Forza (2-2) in . Naturalized American guard David Goddard (185-89) orchestrated the victory by scoring 43 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 8 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Mariano Santa Cruz contributed with 17 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Jose Lopez answered with 17 points and 6 assists for Monjitas. Monjitas' coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Forza maintains fifth place with 2-2 record. Monjitas at the other side still closes the standings with five games lost. Forza will play against higher ranked Villa Nueva (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Monjitas will play against the league's leader Club Force (#1) and hope to get finally their first victory.

David Monterroso stepped up with a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds for the winners. Yordic Velasques responded with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Halcones maintains fourth place with 2-1 record. Loser Coeindeguasa keeps the sixth position with four games lost. Halcones will meet at home league's second-placed Olmeca in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Coeindeguasa will have a break next round.

Forza - Monjitas 93-48

Bottom-ranked Monjitas (0-5) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 93-48 loss to fifth ranked Forza (2-2) in . Forza outrebounded Monjitas 43-31 including 32 on the defensive glass.
