Liga Metropolitana Round 8: Leader Club Force loses to Halcones

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of Club Force (4-2) in Guatemala City on Friday night. Hosts were edged by Halcones (5-1) 57-56. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The best player for the winners was point guard David Monterroso (180-79) who scored 22 points and 8 rebounds. Hector Chur (-99) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. Forward David Sequeira (183-98) produced 25 points and 8 rebounds for the hosts. Club Force's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Halcones have a solid four-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader. Club Force at the other side dropped to the third place with two games lost. They share the position with Olmeca. Halcones are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Monjitas (#7) in the next round where they are favorite. Club Force will play against Coeindeguasa (#6) and is hoping to win this game.
Bottom-ranked Monjitas (0-7) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 103-45 loss to third ranked Villa Nueva (5-2) in . But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. Center Bernie Diaz (200-81) orchestrated the victory by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds. Pablo Cano contributed with 20 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Angel Delgado replied with 15 points for Monjitas. Villa Nueva moved-up to second place. Monjitas at the other side still closes the standings with seven games lost. Villa Nueva will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Monjitas will play against the league's leader Halcones (#1) and hope to get finally their first victory.

In the last game of round 8 Coeindeguasa were crushed by Forza in a road game 81-56.



Forza - Coeindeguasa 81-56

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 6th ranked Coeindeguasa's (1-6) road loss to fifth ranked Forza (4-3) 56-81. Forza had a 38-27 advantage in offensive rebounds. Naturalized American guard David Goddard (185-89) orchestrated the victory by scoring 49 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds. Forward Jose Tuchan (190-97) contributed with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Yordic Velasques (-94) replied with 11 points and 8 rebounds and Helmuth Palacios added 10 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Coeindeguasa. Four Coeindeguasa players scored in double figures. Coeindeguasa's coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Forza maintains fifth position with 4-3 record. Coeindeguasa lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with six games lost. Forza will play against higher ranked Olmeca (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Coeindeguasa will play against Club Force to get more than just one victory in their record.

Monjitas - Villa Nueva 45-103

Bottom-ranked Monjitas (0-7) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 103-45 loss to third ranked Villa Nueva (5-2) in . But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. They dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Monjitas' 28. They outrebounded Monjitas 34-15 including a 25-10 advantage in defensive rebounds. Center Bernie Diaz (200-81) orchestrated the victory by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds.
