Liga Metropolitana Round 12: Villa Nueva beat Forza by two after a very close game

This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 5th ranked Forza (5-5) to second ranked Villa Nueva (7-2) 86-84 on Thursday evening. Villa Nueva looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a good game for Enrique Samayoa (193-82) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 9 rebounds and 10 assists. Miguel Gonzalez (-89) contributed with 27 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Naturalized American guard David Goddard (185-89) replied with 39 points (!!!), 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for Forza. Villa Nueva have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 7-2 record behind leader Halcones. Forza at the other side keeps the fifth place with five games lost. Villa Nueva are looking forward to face Club Force (#3) in Guatemala City in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Forza will play against the league's leader Halcones and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.

Worth to mention a great performance of point guard David Monterroso (180-79) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds and Mario Reyes who added 19 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was center Carlos Florian (-93) with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Halcones keep a position of league leader. Olmeca at the other side keeps the fourth place with four games lost. Halcones will play against Club Force (#3) in Guatemala City in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Even a double-double of 17 points and 15 rebounds by Carlos Gonzalez did not help to save the game for Monjitas. Club Force maintains third position with 6-3 record having just three points less than leader Halcones. Loser Monjitas still closes the standings with 11 games lost.
