Liga Metropolitana Round 13: Halcones lose to Villa Nueva

The biggest surprise took place in Villa Nueva where host Villa Nueva (8-2) beat league's leader Halcones (7-1) 78-72 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Halcones. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Villa Nueva dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Halcones' 22. They outrebounded Halcones 54-43 including 17 on the offensive glass. Kevin Garcia (-96) fired a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 24 rebounds for the winners. American guard Kevin Alvarez (185-95, college: Coast Guard) chipped in 19 points and 4 assists. Hector Chur (-99) produced 34 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds for lost side. Villa Nueva have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Defending champion Halcones dropped to the second place with one game lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Villa Nueva.
Third ranked Amatitlan (5-3) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging 4th placed Forza (3-6) 68-66 in the game for the third place. Worth to mention a great performance of Eliezer Barrot who helped to win the game recording 25 points and 6 rebounds. Dereck Morgan contributed with 8 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. Forward Alejandro Carrillo (192-88) answered with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 17 rebounds for Forza. Amatitlan maintains third place with 5-3 record having five points less than leader Villa Nueva. Forza at the other side keeps the fourth position with six games lost.



Forza - Amatitlan 66-68

Third ranked Amatitlan (5-3) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging 4th placed Forza (3-6) 68-66 in the game for the third place. Worth to mention a great performance of Eliezer Barrot who helped to win the game recording 25 points and 6 rebounds. Dereck Morgan contributed with 8 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. Forward Alejandro Carrillo (192-88) answered with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 17 rebounds and swingman Sergio Hurtarte (188-90) added 20 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Forza. Amatitlan maintains third place with 5-3 record having five points less than leader Villa Nueva. Forza at the other side keeps the fourth position with six games lost.
