David Monterroso
Point guard David Monterroso (180-PG-1979) had an amazing evening in the last round for top-ranked Halcones, receiving a Hoops Agents Liga Metropolitana Player of the Week award for round 11.
The 44-year old player was the main contributor (32 points, nine rebounds and three assists) to his team's victory, helping them to outclass Delfines (#6, 2-7) with 43-point margin 91-48. It allowed Halcones to take over top position in the Guatemalan Liga Metropolitana. Halcones have a solid 7-1 record. Monterroso has many years of experience at Halcones, through which he has constantly improved. David Monterroso has solid league stats. He is league's best scorer averaging so far 34.8ppg. Monterroso is in league's top in rebounds (6th best: 8.2rpg) and averages impressive 3.0spg and 70.5% FGP.
The second best player in last round's games was Luke Garrison of Jaguares. Garrison had a very good evening with a double-double of 26 points and 20 rebounds. It was enough for Jaguares to edge slightly higher-ranked Villa Nueva (#2, 7-2) 53-49. It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Jaguares consolidated its place in top 3 of the standings. His team's 5-4 record is not bad at all. Garrison is one of the most experienced players at Jaguares and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 22.4ppg (#2). He also registered 13.8 boards per game.
Third on the list of top players last round was another Halcones' star - former international swingman Miguel Gonzalez (187-G/F-1990). Gonzalez showcased his all-around game by recording 22 points, sixteen rebounds (!!!) and four assists in the last round. He was another key player of Halcones, helping his team with a 91-48 easy win against the lower-ranked Delfines (#6, 2-7). Halcones confirms their top position in the standings. Gonzalez has a great season in Guatemala. After only 6 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 15.7ppg (4th best), rebounds with 10.2rpg (2nd best) and assists with 4.7apg (best passer). He also has 4.3spg and FGP: 68.1%.
