Fifth-ranked Forza (2-5) gave a tough game to leader Halcones (7-0) in Guatemala on Wednesday. Halcones managed to secure only one-point victory 69-68. However their fans expected much easier game. It was a great evening for point guard David Monterroso (180-1979) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points. The former international swingman Pablo Gonzalez (194-1989) helped adding 11 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. At the losing side Luis del Cid (183-1986) responded with 26 points. Undefeated Halcones have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain first place with 7-0 record. Forza at the other side dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. They share it with Leones and Litegua. Halcones' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Guatemala to the arena Litegua.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Guatemala: PSN (#2) and USAC (#3). USAC was defeated at home 45-51 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It was an exceptional evening for forward Alejandro De Leon (-2003) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks. Cesar Catalan accounted for 12 points and 8 rebounds. PSN's coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Victor Sosa (190-1988) came up with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds for USAC in the defeat. PSN maintains second place with 5-2 record having just two points less than leader Halcones. USAC at the other side keeps the third position with four games lost. PSN's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Guatemala Leones.
Another exciting game was again a derby between two local teams from Guatemala: Litegua (#6) and Leones (#4). Leones were defeated at home 72-79 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Juan Pablo Aguilar JP fired 17 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Rodrigo Oliva produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 16 rebounds for lost side. Litegua (2-5) moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Leones and Forza. Litegua's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Guatemala Halcones.
