The biggest surprise of round 3 in Liga Metropolitana took place in Solola where host Solola (2-0) crushed Forza (2-1) 101-68 on Monday evening. Solola dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Forza's 42. The best player for the winners was American guard Jacksen Greco (190, college: Anderson) who scored 28 points and 6 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Donaval Avila Jr. (190, college: Westminster, UT) chipped in 18 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American power forward Kiyjohnte Houston (203-1998, college: Patrick Henry, agency: Fully Feared Sports) who recorded 22 points and 7 rebounds. Forza will play next round against strong El Progreso trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Solola will try to continue on its current victory against Pat City in Guatemala.
El Progreso edged Pat City at home 88-87. It was a good game for Luis Orbe who saved his team from a defeat with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. Sebastian Tabata contributed with 19 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. American point guard Thomas Doyle (185, college: Chapman, agency: Fully Feared Sports) answered with 21 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals for Pat City. Pat City will play next round against strong Solola trying to get back on the winning streak. El Progreso will try to continue on its current victory against Forza at Guatemala.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Guatemala: PSN (#7) and Leones (#4). PSN (1-2) won against visiting Leones (0-2) 61-53. It was a great evening for Ivan Fernandez who led his team to a victory scoring 17 points and 6 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Luis Perez with 8 points and 12 rebounds. Leones' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. PSN's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Guatemala to the arena .
