Wizards are 2009 NBL All-Island Champs - Dec 14, 2009
Kingston, Jamaica (12-14-2009): Tivoli Wizards ascended to the top of the basketball world in Jamaica over the weekend when they captured the Flow National Basketball League (NBL) All-Island Championships with a thrilling 85-72 victory over Majestic Gardens Legends at the National Indoor Sports Center. After easily taking game one last Thursday 81-67, the Wizards, formerly Tivoli All-Stars, returned to dominate their opponents and claim the best-of-three series 2-0. This was a repeat of the Southern Conference finals earlier this season which was also won by Tivoli over Majestic. Kirk Ferguson led the boys from West Kingston with a game-high 25 points and 12 rebounds, and was fittingly voted the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the finals. Andrew Whilby (15 points and 12 rebounds) and Delano Mallett (11 points) proved to be able sidekicks. Boldon Todd was scoring leader for Majestic as he finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while league MVP Kemar McLeish added 16 points and Havando Dunn chipped-in with 14 points. Meanwhile, in the playoffs for third place, former champions Urban Knights hammered Manchester Pythons 77-57 behind 14 points and 10 rebounds from Oneil Mundle, and 14 points from Christhopher Brown. Shad Walters (18 points) and Nevije Walters (11 points) led Pythons.
