Eagles avenge Knights, claim ALF Remikie Cup-Feb 8, 2025
In the feature match of the night, a replay of last season’s NBL Finals, the defending champions Urban Knights faced off against the Upper Room Eagles. Both teams boasted the best records and statistics in the league since last season. Eagles were poised to secure their first title but were held at bay by the five-time champions. The atmosphere was electric as both teams vied for bragging rights and the Alf Remikie Cup. The Eagles quickly amassed a 10-point lead by the end of the first quarter, leading 25-15. Both teams continued to electrify their fans with high-flying dunks and long-range shots. By halftime, the Eagles held a seven-point cushion, leading 44-37. Both teams displayed solid hustle on defense and high-octane offense. The Eagles’ offense propelled them to a 13-point (63-50) lead by the end of the third quarter. Although the reigning champions won the final quarter 20-14, it wasn’t enough to prevent their rivals from securing a morale-boosting 77-70 win, plus lifting the season’s first piece of hardware. D'Andre Forbes (186-PG) spearheaded the Eagles’ assault, leading all scorers with 15 points, 2 assists and three steals. He received support from Shavair Francis and Jermaine Brown (180-PG-1987) who both dropped 12 points respectively and combined for seven rebounds and 4 assists. In the loss, Omar Barnes recorded the first double-double of the season, amassing 11 points and 11 boards. Juvane Carthy, also supplied 11 points, with Romaine chipping in with ten points.
