Round 2 (Second Stage): Olimpia K. beat J.Guzman by one after a very close game

The most exciting game of round 2 in the Liga Sudamericana took place in Asuncion. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of Ecuadorian J.Guzman to Paraguayan Olimpia K. 93-92 in the game for the second place. J.Guzman was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 4-point lead after three quarters before a 23-18 charge of Olimpia K., which allowed them to win the game. They made 25-of-32 free shots (78.1 percent) during the game. 27 personal fouls committed by J.Guzman helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American guard Charles Hinkle (198-1988, college: American) saved the victory by scoring 23 points and 5 assists. contributed with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Olimpia K.'s coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. American swingman Dennis McKinney (194-1998, college: Mt.Mercy) replied with 26 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for J.Guzman. Olimpia K. are looking forward to face Ferro in Buenos Aires in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. J.Guzman will play at home against Univ.Sucre and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Ferro's coach felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American point guard DaQuan Brooks (177-1990, college: W.Connecticut) responded with 21 points. Ferro will play against Olimpia K. in Asuncion in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Univ.Sucre will play on the road against J.Guzman in Loja and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Univ.Sucre - Ferro 59-102

An interesting game for Argentinian Ferro which played road game in Sucre against Bolivian Univ.Sucre. Ferro had an easy win 102-59. The game was mostly controlled by Ferro. Univ.Sucre was better in third quarter 27-25. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Ferro dominated on the defensive end, holding Univ.Sucre to just 5 points in second quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Univ.Sucre's 24. They outrebounded Univ.Sucre 36-24 including 25 on the defensive glass. Ferro players were unselfish on offense dishing 35 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Univ.Sucre's players.
