Atenas
(ARG) eliminated Marinos (VEN) 93-79 - Mar 11, 2004
- by Francisco Vega
Atenas de Cordoba (ARG) recovered from a bad first half to defeat
Marinos de Oriente (VEN) 93-79 in Game 3 of Liga Sudamericana's Quarter
Finals, in a game played at "Carlos Cerruti" Gymnasium of Cordoba. The
victory allowed the locals to qualify for the Semi-Finals, where they'll
face their compatriots, Boca Juniors.
Marinos dominated the first two halfs based on a collective strategy,
trying to handle the ball carefully and doing a better selection of the
shots. The eastern coast team, however, was not always in front on the
scoreaboard, which showed the irregular performance of its offensive,
specially when it came to three-long shots.
The third quarter was a fight between the two teams, but Atenas
prevalied. The last quarter was definitory for the locals, who gained an
advantage that Marinos wasn't able to come back from. Once again,
Oriente was not accurate from the distance and gave away too many
offensive opportunities.
Facundo Sucatzky (176-G-72, agent:
Prunes Carlos) was the main player of Atenas in this match,
considered as the most harming for Venezuela's players.
