Uniceub/BRB celebrated the victory over their arch-rivals Flamengo to claim Liga Sudamericana title. The teams met in the championship game in Rio de Janeiro yesterday. Nezinho dos Santos (186-G-81, agency: Interperformances) and Guilherme Giovannoni scored 22 points each to pace the Brazilian champions to the win. Marcelinho Machado (199-F/G-75, agency: Interperformances) was once again brilliant as he helped Flamengo to a flaming start. They scored 33 points in the opening frame to take a 9-point lead. But the second term turned things around. Uniceub/BRB capitalized on the barrage of misses from Flamengo to erase the deficit. Moreover the NBB champs pulled in front to take a 53:44 lead at the interval. Flamengo went on a17:3 run to open the third period. They returned into the drivers seat but not for long though. Nezinho dos Santos gave the lead back to Uniceub/BRB as they entered the fourth stanza up by two points 73:71. The teams were tied at 75 late in the game when Marcio Cipriano (201-C-79) and Guilherme Giovannoni (202-F-80, agency: Interperformances) came up with key buckets and Uniceub/BRB ran away for good. Marcio Cipriano produced 15 points for the winners. Alexandre Garcia (191-G-80, agency: Interperformances) had 16 points for Uniceub/BRB. Marcelinho Machado responded with game-high 28 points. Guilherme Teichmann (204-F/C-83, college: Tulsa) netted 12 points in the loss.
