Regatas Corrientes clinch the trophy - Dec 7, 2012
Regatas C. - Flamengo 81-82 Regatas Corrientes have become the Liga Sudamericana champions. They clinched the crown despite the loss to Flamengo in the final game of the tournament. Paolo Quinteros (190-G/F-79) stepped up with 24 points to pace Regatas. He was named the tournmants MVP after the game. Flamengo entered the game looking for a 13+ point victory to claim the trophy. But Regatas stayed in charge as they posted a 20:18 lead after the starting quarter. The teams traded baskets throughout the second frame. Regatas accounted for a 37:35 halftime lead. Flamengo stepped on the gas in the third quarter. The Rio de Janeiro team surged ahead for a 61:58 advantage at the final break. Flamengo extended the margin to 8 points in the fourth frame but Regatas did not allow their opponents to get any further away. The hosts stopped the bleeding and secured the needed result at the end. Vitor Benite (190-F/G-90) provided 21 points for Flamengo. Shilton Santos added 15 points for the winners. Javier Martinez (189-G/F-78, agency: Dream Team Management) answered with 20 points for Regatas. Meyinsse netted 18 points in the loss.
Brasilia - Penarol 87-77 Uniceub/BRB finished their Liga Sudamericana campaign on a high. Welington Dos Santos (185-PG-81) fired 32 points to pace the Brazilian team past Penarol. Uniceub/BRB finished in the second place just behind the new champions Regatas Corrientes. Uniceub/BRB strongly started the game. They unloaded 32 points in the opening frame to take a 12-point lead. Penarol slowed their opponents down in the second quarter. The Argentinean team got within 11 points at the interval. Brasilia regained control in the third quarter. They arrived at the final break up by 12 points. Penarol outscored Brasilia 14:12 in the fourth frame but just sweetened the pill at the end. Alex Ribeiro (191-G-80, agency: Interperformances) provided 18 points, while Arthur Silva contributed 10 points for the winners. Facundo Campazzo (179-PG-91) answered with 28 points for Penarol. Thomas Terrell chipped in 12 points in the loss.

Brasilia - Flamengo 85-74 Uniceub/BRB registered the first win at the Final Stage of Liga Sudamericana. They held off their Brazilian rivals Flamengo for 1-1 record. Guilherme Giovannoni (202-F-80, agency: Interperformances) knocked down 18 points to pace the winners. Flamengo jumped to a 22:16 lead after the opening quarter. But Uniceub/BRB cut the deficit in the second period. They got within a single point at halftime 39:40. Uniceub/BRB surged ahead in the third term. They accounted for a 62:56 advantage with one quarter remaining. Uniceub/BRB fired 23 points in the fourth frame and sealed the victory at the end. Isaac Goncalves recorded 16 points for the winners. Penarol - Regatas C. 58-65 Regatas Corrientes made another step towards gaining 2012 Liga Sudamericana title. They knocked down Penarol to improve at 2-0 record at the Final Stage of the tournament. Federico Kammerichs (202-F-80) stepped up with 14 points and 16 boards for the winners. Regatas will take on Flamengo for the title later tonight. Regatas Corrientes held to a narrow 19:18 lead after the starting quarter. They boosted the gap to 2 points at the interval 33:31. The teams stayed neck and neck throughout the third term. Regatas managed to secure a 2-point lead heading into the fourth period. The hosts held Penarol to 12 points in the final frame and escaped with a tough victory at the end. Paolo Quinteros (190-G/F-79) delivered 18 points, while Nicolas Romano netted 11 points for Regatas Corrientes. Marcos Mata (201-SF-86) answered with 20 points and 11 boards for Penarol. Regatas Corrientes started with 23-15 and never looked behind after. They added 16-14 rally in the second period and led 10 points at the halftime. Moreover the team from Argentina erupted with 25-11 in the third period and did not mind a lot about the last stanza. Uniceub BRB managed to win the last period 21-10 and reduced to 13 points at the end. Jerome Meyinsse (206-C-88, agency: Dream Team Management, college: Virginia) led the way with 22 points and Quinteros Paolo netted 21. Miguel Gerlero (194-G/F-88) delivered 9, while Tony Washam (200-F-82, college: St.Vincent) tossed in 8. Welington Dos Santos answered with 16 points, while Alex Ribeiro (191-G-80, agency: Interperformances) and Alves Alirio had 10 each.
Flamengo - Penarol 79-78 Flamengo erupts in the second half to stun Penarol at the Final stage of the South American League 2012. The team trailed 26 points, but managed to seal 1-point win, 79:78. Penarol took the control of the game from the first minutes and won the opening period 29-17. They added 20-12 for 49:29 massive lead at the halftime. Moreover their advantage reached 26 points, but they could not win the game. Flamengo replied with 27-17 in the third quarter and then erupted with 23-12 in the last quarter. Olivinha Rodriguez (202-F-83) top-scored for the winners with 23 points and 15 rebounds, while Marquinhos Vieira (207-F-84) added 19. Silveira Caio delivered 18 and Vitor Benite (190-F/G-90) notched 9. Teague David finished the game with 18 points in defeat and Facundo Campazzo (179-PG-91) brought 16. Gutierrez Leonardo scored 14, whilst Thomas Terrell (201-F/C-79, college: Georgia St.) tossed in 13. Tomorrow, Flamengo will take on Uniceub / BRB, while Penarol will face host Regatas Corrientes to close the day.

Pinheiros/Sky - Obras 73-88 Obras is the winner of Liga Sudamericana title for the first time in its history. The Argentinean squad outplayed Pinheiros in the Big Final 73-88. The game was played last night. Tony Washam (200-F-82, college: St.Vincent) stepped up for the winners with 23 points and 6 rebounds. Juan Gutierrez (205-F/C-83) also was great adding 16 points and 9 rebs. Gutierrez was named MVP of the tournament. Julio Mazzaro (190-G-79) netted 11 pts in this victory. At the other side, Pinheiros got 18 points and 6 boards from Marquinhos Vieira (207-F-84). Paulinho Boracini (183-G-84) had 13 points and 5 rebs, while Bruno Pires (200-F-77) delivered 12 points. Quarters: 22-26, 9-19, 25-25, 17-18. Uniceub BRB won third place in Liga Sudamericana. They grabbed 76-74 victory against Atenas.
