Round 8: Aguada lose to Boca- October 15, 2022
Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
Los Leones - Olimpia 78-81 Very significant was Uruguayan Olimpia's (#4) just 3-point road victory against one of their biggest challengers Chilean Los Leones. Los Leones were very close to get their first win. But it seems they have to wait a little bit longer. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Olimpia made 18-of-23 charity shots (78.3 percent) during the game. The winners were led by American point guard Marcus Thomas (191-1995, college: Rosemont) who scored that evening 26 points and 7 rebounds (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) and Spanish-Uruguayan center Esteban Batista (206-1983) supported him with 13 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. Olimpia's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds by American forward Cameron Naylor (202-1994, college: Texas St.) did not help to save the game for Los Leones. His fellow American import guard Gabriel Belardo (188-1989, college: FIU) added 19 points and 7 assists for the hosts. Four Olimpia and five Los Leones players scored in double figures. It was the only win of guest team this round and in all other games host teams recorded victories. Olimpia (1-1) left bottom position moving up to second place, which they share with Aguada. Los Leones at the other side still closes the standings with two games lost. Olimpia will play against league's leader Boca in Buenos Aires in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Los Leones will play on the road against the league's second-placed Aguada in Montevideo and hope to get finally their first victory. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Boca. Aguada managed to win second period 16-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Jordanian Dar Tucker (193-1988, college: DePaul) who helped to win the game recording 28 points (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and Marcos Mata (202-1986) who added 8 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Dominican center Eloy Vargas (211-1988, college: Kentucky, agency: BIG) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds and American Jordan Adams (196-1994, college: UCLA) scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Boca (2-0) keeps a position of league leader. Aguada at the other side dropped to the second place with one game lost. They share the position with Olimpia. They were replaced at the leadership position by San Jose. Aguada will play next round against strong Los Leones trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Boca will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Olimpia in Montevideo.
