Liga SudAmericana round 5 best performance: Jayson Granger (by Hoops Agents)- October 19, 2023
The 34-year old player was the main contributor (23 points, seven rebounds and nine assists) to his team's victory, helping them to beat Los Leones (#2, 1-1) 101-87. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. It allowed Penarol to take over top position in the Liga SudAmericana. They maintain a perfect record without any lost game in the league. But it's just the very beginning of the season and Penarol won both games without losing any. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. In the team's last game Granger had a remarkable five three-pointers out of 9 attempts. He turned to be Penarol's top player in his first season with the team. Jayson Granger has solid league stats. He is in league's top in points (2nd best: 16.0ppg), assists (5th best: 5.0apg) and averages impressive 57.1% from behind 3-point line. Worth to mention Granger played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. The second best player in last round's games was young Fernando Podesta (205-C-1992) of Gimnasia. Podesta had a very good evening with a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds. Of course he led Gimnasia to another comfortable win outscoring Leones (#4, 0-2) 102-47. It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Gimnasia consolidated its place in top 3 of the standings. His team's 1-1 record is not bad at all. Podesta is a newcomer at Gimnasia and despite he is not a team leader yet, every game he becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often. Third on the list of top players last round was another Gimnasia's star - forward Norberto Stucky (198-F-1994). Stucky showcased his all-around game by recording 13 points, fourteen rebounds (!!!) and four assists in the last round. He was another key player of Gimnasia, helping his team with a 102-47 easy win against #4 ranked Leones. Gimnasia needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 1 victory and 1 lost game. Stucky has a great season in Liga SudAmericana. After only 2 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 8.5rpg (5th best). Other top performing players last week: 4. Joshua Webster (190-G-1997) of Gimnasia - 19 points and 2 assists 5. Golan Gutt (195-SG-1994) of Los Leones - 24 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists 6. Guido Mariani (193-G-1994) of Gimnasia - 22 points, 2 rebounds and 4 assists 7. Isaac Sosa (191-G-1990) of Penarol - 21 points and 2 rebounds 8. Johann Martinez (2004) of Leones - 15 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists 9. Ignacio Xavier (196-F-1999) of Penarol - 13 points and 3 rebounds 10. Gerard De Vaughn (205-C-1988) of Gimnasia - 11 points and 5 rebounds The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
