Round 10 (Regular Season): Pinheiros lose to Regatas

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Brazilian Pinheiros (0-1) in Corrientes on Monday night. Visitors were edged by Argentinian Regatas (1-0) in overtime 77-75. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Pinheiros won fourth quarter 19-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Pinheiros used huge pressure winning it 19-13 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 7-9. Regatas made 26-of-34 free shots (76.5 percent) during the game. Strangely Pinheiros outrebounded Regatas 45-29 including a 17-1 advantage in offensive rebounds. 26 personal fouls committed by Pinheiros helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Pablo Gramajo (193-1996) fired 14 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. point guard Juan Corbalan (185-1998) chipped in 18 points (made all of his seven free throws). American point guard David Sloan (183-1999, college: ETSU) produced 10 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists for lost side. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. It was the only win of host team this round and in all other games visitors recorded victories. Regatas keep a position of league leader, which they share with Los Leones. Pinheiros at the other side still closes the standings with one game lost. They share the position with San Jose. Regatas is looking forward to face league's leader Los Leones in Quilpue in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Pinheiros will play on the road against San Jose in Asuncion and hope to get finally their first victory.

San Jose - Los Leones 52-84

San Jose was not able to use a home court advantage and was crushed by the opponent from Quilpue 84-52 on Monday night. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game without a history. Los Leones led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding San Jose to just 7 points in third quarter. scored 15 points to lead the charge for the winners and chipped in 11 points and 4 assists during the contest. Five Los Leones players scored in double figures. At the losing side Argentinian-Paraguayan forward Franco Benitez (199-1994) responded with 13 points and 7 rebounds and American swingman Austin Wrighten (192-1996, college: Lynchburg) scored 8 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. It was the only win of guest team this round and in all other games host teams recorded victories. Los Leones maintains first position with 1-0 record, which they share with Regatas. Loser San Jose still closes the standings with one game lost. They share the position with Pinheiros. Los Leones will meet at home league's second-placed Regatas in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. San Jose will play against Pinheiros and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
