Frayles de Guasave crowned 2006 CIBACOPA Champions
Cananea, Sonora - In a heated contest played in the home of the Mineros de Cananea, the 1500 fans in attendence would play a major role on the outcome of this game but not the way you would assume for their home team Mineros. The lead changed hands several times until, after the 2nd and 3rd quarters, Guasave began to slowly add to their lead. With the score at 75-69 in favor of the Frayles a call went against the Mineros and it was all the crowd could bear. People from the crowd were up in their seats, littering the court, many began to make their way onto the court itself as play was stopped to regain order. The attendence was all the facility could bear with a calm crowd and things were geting heated. A wonderful season for the likes of Sam Bowie (198-F/G-75, college: SE Louisiana) ,Jorge Rochin (202-F-78, college: Portland), Willie Davis (198-G/F-78, agency: EM-PA, college: SMU), and Larry Taylor (186-G, college: Missouri Western) of Guasave and the same for Galen Robinson (203-F/C-74, agency: ND Corner Sports, college: Houston), Davin White (186-G-81, college: Cal.St. Northridge), and Miguel Acuna (181-G-73) of Cananea would come to a close after a 1 hour delay and multiple attempts to calm the crowd down. Unfortunately the game was called and the players were taken back to their hotels, League President Antonio Gandara proclaimed for the safety of all those involved the game would not continue. Frayles de Guasave takes game 7 of the series, final score 79-65. League awards will be announced shortly with player of the year, import player of the year, 1st and 2nd teams, and honorable mentions among those to be announced.
