    Tijuana Zonkeys earn CIBACOPA title - Jul 20, 2018


    Tijuana - Obregon 87-73

    Tijuana fired past Obregon in the sixth game of the championship series to celebrate CIBACOPA title. The hosts trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 53-35 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Tijuana Zonkeys looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Halcones de Ciudad Obregon's players. It was a good game for naturalized American swingman Karim Scott (196-88) who led his team to a victory with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists. American forward Mychal Ammons (198-92, college: S.Alabama) contributed with 13 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Four Tijuana Zonkeys players scored in double figures. Tijuana Zonkeys' coach James Penny used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Isaiah Wilkerson (191-90, college: NJIT) replied with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) and his fellow American import forward Jimmy Hall (203-94, college: Kent St.) added 19 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Halcones de Ciudad Obregon.

    South edged North 137-128 in CIBACOPA All Star game. They grabbed a 40-33 lead early in the game and had a 5-point halftime advantage. Both sides posted 36 points each in the third quarter, while South added a final 30-26 run in the last stanza.
    Eric Frederick (203-F-88, college: Texas Wesleyan) stepped up with 30 points for the winners and Brandon Swannegan (206-F-93, college: Tulsa) netted 18. Sammy Yeager (193-F-89, college: CS Fullerton) delivered 14, whilst Michael Lizarraga (200-F-89, college: CS Northridge) poured in 13. Anthony West (191-F-81, college: Blinn JC) replied with 31 points for the North team and Quinton Chievous (198-F/G-92, college: Hampton) had 21. Landon Atterberry (198-F-93, college: LIU Brooklyn) ended up with 14.
    Eric Frederick was named MVP of the All Star game. Luis Ramirez (180-PG-82) became the winner of the three-point contest, while Michael Bryson (193-G-94, college: UCSB) won Dunk contest.
