First defeat of league's leader Astros against Tijuana Zonkeys 82-80 was the most important game of the last round. Worth to mention a great performance of American Tonzell Handy (196, college: Tougaloo) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds. His fellow American import Derek Rhodes (196-1993, college: Sacramento CC) contributed with 24 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American forward Jordan Loveridge (198-1993, college: Utah) answered with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for Astros. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Astros will play next round against strong Venados trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Tijuana Zonkeys will try to continue on its current victory against Rayos de Hermosillo on the road.
Venados smashed Caballeros de Culiacan in Mazatlan 107-80. American players dominated the game. point guard Marlon Stewart (190-1997, college: N.Dakota) stepped up and scored 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners and Davin White chipped in 16 points and 5 assists. At the losing side Clinton Parker (183-1992, college: Ancilla CC) responded with 18 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Caballeros de Culiacan will play next round against Halcones de Ciudad Obregon trying to get back on the winning streak. Venados will try to continue on its current victory against Astros at Guadalajara.
Pioneros Los Mochis recorded a loss at the home court on Friday night. Hosts were defeated by Halcones de Ciudad Obregon 100-93. American players dominated also this game. Germain Jordan nailed 25 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winning side. Kwame Alexander came up with 28 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for Pioneros Los Mochis in the defeat. Pioneros Los Mochis' coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon will meet Caballeros de Culiacan on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Pioneros Los Mochis will play against Ostioneros de Guaymas and hope to win that game.

Other games in round 1 were not that significant. Astros beat Tijuana on the road 97-85. Bottom-ranked Tijuana lost to Astros on its own court 98-110. Mazatlan managed to outperform Culiacan in a road game 98-96. Hermosillo rolled over Guaymas at home 90-61. Hermosillo were defeated by Guaymas on the opponent's court 92-80. Obregon was beaten by Los Mochis in a home game 78-86.
The most impressive performance of 1st round was 24 points and 9 rebounds by Wayne Runnels of Los Mochis.

Tijuana - Astros 85-97

But Tijuana Zonkeys were not able to use a home court advantage and were defeated by the opponent from Guadalajara 97-85 on Wednesday night. Astros looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American players dominated also this game. Forward Jordan Loveridge (198-1993, college: Utah) nailed 22 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and point guard Toure Murry (196-1989, college: Wichita St., agency: Players Group) accounted for 16 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Point guard Jaime Johnson (183, college: Guilford) came up with 27 points and 4 assists and Tonzell Handy (196, college: Tougaloo) added 15 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Tijuana Zonkeys in the defeat. Five Astros and four Tijuana Zonkeys players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Four Venados players scored in double figures. Sam Daniel (203-1996, college: Florida Tech) came up with 28 points and 9 rebounds and Najeal Young (198-1994, college: TxWes) added 28 points and 5 assists respectively for Caballeros de Culiacan in the defeat.
