LNBPF Round 26: Phoenix is defeated by Barreteras

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in LMBPF. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most surprising game was another loss of top-ranked Phoenix (3-16) in Guadalupe on Sunday night. Visitors were rolled over by ninth ranked Barreteras (10-12) 95-41. Barreteras dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Phoenix's 28. Barreteras forced 25 Phoenix turnovers and outrebounded them 48-31 including 18 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Phoenix's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Barreteras made 10 blocks. American guard Megan Garcia (173, agency: Gamble Sports Management) had a double-double by scoring 20 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import forward Alexis Johnson (183, college: Virginia Union) chipped in 14 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 10 blocks during the contest. Barreteras' coach Alejandro Rivera felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Arleth Ortega responded with 9 points and 9 rebounds. Barreteras have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain ninth position with 10-12 record. Phoenix lost twelfth consecutive game. They still keep top place with 16 games lost. Barreteras are looking forward to face Las Plebes (#11) in the next round. Phoenix will have a break next round.
Very important is a road loss of first ranked Racers (2-20) against fourth ranked Lobas (17-7) on Sunday night. Visiting Racers unexpectedly were crushed by in Ciudad de Mexico 58-116. American forward Alexus Johnson (188-1994, college: Texas Southern) notched 22 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort and Andrea Medina supported her with 22 points and 8 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Lobas' coach Israel Zermeno felt very confident using entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 15 points and 4 assists by point guard Daniela Escamilla did not help to save the game for Racers. Lobas have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to third place. Racers lost sixth consecutive game. Newly promoted team still keep top position with 20 games lost. Lobas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Racers will play against Atleticas and hope to get back on the winning track.
LMBPF top team - Mieleras (24-0) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed fifth ranked Escaramuzas (12-10) in Guanajuato 94-54. The best player for the winners was Destiny Campbell who scored 20 points and 8 rebounds. Italivy Ramos produced 10 points for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated Mieleras have an impressive 24-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 24-0 record. Escaramuzas lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Atleticas. Mieleras will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Escaramuzas will play against Mexcaltecas (#8) and hope to secure a win.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 26: Las Plebes were destroyed by Mexcaltecas on the opponent's court 82-61. Atleticas managed to outperform Algodoneras in a home game 75-64. Regias rolled over Lenadoras on the road 76-56.

LMBPF top team - Mieleras (24-0) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed fifth ranked Escaramuzas (12-10) in Guanajuato 94-54. Mieleras dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Escaramuzas' 28. Mieleras forced 28 Escaramuzas turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Escaramuzas' players. The best player for the winners was American forward Destiny Campbell (185, college: ECU) who scored 20 points and 8 rebounds. Nigerian forward Ijeoma Uchendu (185-1992, college: Butler) chipped in 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Four Mieleras players scored in double figures. The game between closely ranked teams ended with 10th ranked Las Plebes' (5-17) road loss to ninth ranked Mexcaltecas (10-11) 61-82 on Sunday. The best player for the winners was Sofia Payan (167-2000) who scored 31 points and 5 rebounds. Diana Santamaria chipped in a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds. Coach Gerardo Guzman's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 10 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. American forward Danielle Forrest-Higgins (178, college: Morgan St.) produced a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds and Jessica Martinez added 5 points and 14 rebounds respectively for the guests. Mexcaltecas have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to eighth place. Las Plebes lost eighth consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with 17 games lost. They share it with Lenadoras and Algodoneras. Mexcaltecas will meet higher ranked Escaramuzas (#6) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Las Plebes will play against Barreteras (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Rather predictable result in Monterrey where seventh ranked Atleticas (12-10) defeated 10th ranked Algodoneras (5-17) 75-64 on Sunday. Atleticas looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Paola Estrada (172-1993) who had a double-double by scoring 28 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. Dominican center Yamile Rodriguez (188-1994, college: ETSU) chipped in a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). Power forward Vania Martinez (181-1996) produced 17 points and 6 rebounds and guard Sujei Cera (173-1997) added 10 points and 7 assists respectively for the guests. Algodoneras' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Atleticas moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Escaramuzas. Algodoneras lost tenth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keep the tenth position with 17 games lost. They share it with Lenadoras and Las Plebes. Atleticas will meet league's leader Racers in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Algodoneras will play against Lenadoras (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Not a big story in a game when 12th ranked Lenadoras (5-17) were rolled over at home by second ranked Regias (21-1) 76-56 on Friday. Regias dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Lenadoras' 24. The best player for the winners was American guard Ashton Millender (173, college: DePaul) who scored 21 points (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!). Narda Lopez (180-1996) chipped in 15 points. American guard Kala Green (175-1996, college: NC A&T) produced 21 points and 5 rebounds and her fellow American import forward Shamika Singleton (185-1989, college: Concordia, TX) added 9 points respectively for the hosts. Regias have an impressive 11-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 21-1 record having five points less than leader Phoenix. Lenadoras at the other side dropped to the tenth place with 17 games lost. They share the position with Algodoneras and Las Plebes. Regias will meet at home Teporacas (#4) in the next round. Lenadoras will play against Algodoneras (#10) in Comarca and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
