Round 17 most important game was a victory of Caballeros de Culiacan over 5th ranked Venados 105-96 on Friday night. Caballeros de Culiacan made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 52.0 percentage. American guard Jarron Cumberland (196-1997, college: Cincinnati) orchestrated the victory by scoring 31 points. Colombian Michaell Jackson (190-1987) contributed with 27 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American guard Jeff Ledbetter (191-1988, college: Idaho, agency: Slash Sports) answered with 27 points, 8 assists and 5 steals for Venados. Venados' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Caballeros de Culiacan (18-16) moved-up to second place, which they share with Tijuana and Astros. Venados lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with 17 games lost.
Another interesting game for Caballeros de Culiacan (18-16) which played in Mazatlan against Venados (17-17). Fourth ranked Caballeros de Culiacan had an easy win 111-99. American guard Jarron Cumberland (196-1997, college: Cincinnati) stepped up and scored 28 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 8 steals for the winners and Michaell Jackson chipped in 21 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Caballeros de Culiacan moved-up to second place, which they share with Tijuana and Astros. Visiting Astros were defeated by Tijuana Zonkeys in a tough game in Tijuana 91-99. American players dominated the game. Joshua Webster nailed a triple-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds and 15 assists for the winning side. Jordan Loveridge came up with 28 points and 6 rebounds (perfect behind the arc making all five shots) for Astros in the defeat. Astros' coach Ariel Rearte tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Tijuana Zonkeys moved-up to second place, which they share with Culiacan and Astros.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 17: Hermosillo beat Guaymas on the road 104-88. Bottom-ranked Obregon won against Los Mochis on its own court 102-98. Hermosillo managed to outperform Guaymas in a road game 89-80. Bottom-ranked Obregon recorded a loss to Los Mochis at home 121-128. Astros was defeated by Tijuana on the opponent's court 92-87.




Guaymas - Hermosillo 88-104

No shocking result in a game when first ranked Rayos de Hermosillo (28-6) beat on the road 7th ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (12-22) 104-88 on Friday. Rayos de Hermosillo shot 62.5 percent from the field. American players dominated the game. Guard Jimond Ivey (196-1996, college: Akron) nailed 27 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and forward Aaron Wheeler (206-1998, college: St.John's) accounted for 22 points. Point guard Roddy Peters (193-1995, college: Nicholls St.) came up with 28 points and 5 assists and power forward Anthony Smith (201-1997, college: Murray St.) added 16 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Ostioneros de Guaymas in the defeat. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Rayos de Hermosillo have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 28-6 record. Ostioneros de Guaymas at the other side keep the seventh position with 22 games lost.
