LMBPF Round 4 (Regular Season): Mieleras keep a leadership position

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Mieleras as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Mieleras smashed bottom-ranked Mineras in Guanajuato 82-56. Mieleras forced 22 Mineras turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Destiny Pitts (178-1999, college: Texas A&M) who helped to win the game recording 8 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists. Naturalized American guard Mia Castaneda (168-1998, college: Washburn) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Mieleras' coach felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Diana Armas (185-1993) replied with 19 points and 8 rebounds for Mineras. Undefeated Mieleras (5-0) have an impressive five-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Mineras at the other side still closes the standings with three games lost. They share the position with Las Avispas and Penguins. Mineras will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Mieleras will try to continue on its current victory against eighth ranked Mineras in Zacatecas.
Huskys' fans can celebrate the first win of their team after four consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Chilpancingo, where they defeated Las Avispas (0-3) 50-43. Worth to mention a great performance of Erika Mora who helped to win the game recording 10 points and 5 assists and Emily Herrejon who added 12 points during the contest. At the losing side Harumy Vazquez responded with 11 points. Las Avispas' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Huskys (1-4) left bottom position moving up to sixth place. It was Las Avispas' third loss in a row. They still close the standings with three games lost. They share the position with Mineras and Penguins. Huskys will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Las Avispas will play again at home against Huskys (#6) and hope to get finally their first victory.

Modelo (3-0) 82-74 on Saturday evening. The winners were led by Melissa Ruiz who scored that evening 27 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. Even 22 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists by Frida Figueroa did not help to save the game for Penguins. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Univ. Modelo have a solid three-game winning streak. Newly promoted Univ. Modelo maintains third position with 3-0 record having 2 victories less than leader Mieleras. Penguins at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with three games lost. They share the position with Las Avispas and Mineras. Univ. Modelo will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Penguins will play again against Univ. Modelo (#3) and look forward to get finally their first victory.

In the last game of round 4 Toritas were smashed by Libelulas on the road 107-62.
The most impressive performance of 4th round was 22 points and 5 rebounds by Paola Beltran of Libelulas.

Penguins - Univ. Modelo 74-82

Bottom-ranked Penguins is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their third consecutive match to top-ranked Univ. Modelo (3-0) 82-74 on Saturday evening. Univ. Modelo forced 19 Penguins turnovers and outrebounded them 57-44 including 17 on the offensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Univ. Modelo made 7 blocks. The winners were led by the former international point guard Melissa Ruiz (162-2002) who scored that evening 27 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals and Adriana Gonzalez (181-2001) supported her with 18 points and 7 rebounds. This time Libelulas used a home court advantage and crushed the opponent from Celaya 107-62 on Saturday night. Libelulas dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Toritas' 34. They outrebounded Toritas 44-25 including a 34-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Libelulas looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The winners were led by Gladiana Avila who scored that evening 27 points and 5 assists and the former international point guard Paola Beltran (164-1994) supported her with 22 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Four Libelulas players scored in double figures. Even 13 points and 6 rebounds by Maria Salazar did not help to save the game for Toritas. Samantha Valerio added 13 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Libelulas have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 3-2 record. Toritas lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with three games lost.
