LMBPF Round 5 (Regular Season): Las Avispas record their first victory

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

Las Avispas has registered their first victory this season after three consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Huskys (1-5) 62-57 on Sunday. Stefi Abarca stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and the former international Gabriela Castrejon chipped in 12 points and 14 rebounds. Las Avispas' coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Erika Mora responded with 25 points and 5 assists. Las Avispas (1-3) left bottom position moving up to sixth place. Huskys at the other side dropped to the seventh position with five games lost. Las Avispas are looking forward to face higher ranked Univ. Modelo (#3) in Merida in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Huskys will have a break next round.
LMBPF top team - Mieleras (6-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed eighth ranked Mineras (0-4) in Guanajuato 81-47. American guard Destiny Pitts (178-1999, college: Texas A&M) nailed a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side and Kimberly Aguilar accounted for 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks. Mieleras' coach felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American point guard Janeen Camp (196, college: Troy) came up with 9 points and 14 rebounds for Mineras in the defeat. Undefeated Mieleras have an impressive series of six victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 6-0 record. Mineras at the other side still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with Penguins. Mieleras will play against Toritas (#5) in Celaya in the next round. Mineras will play at home against the league's second-placed Dragonas and hope to get finally their first victory.
Bottom-ranked Penguins (0-4) is still winless. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their fourth consecutive match to leader Univ. Modelo (4-0) 87-66 on Sunday evening. The best player for the winners was Melissa Ruiz who had a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Giselle Medina produced a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Univ. Modelo. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Dragonas. Penguins lost their fourth game in a row. Penguins at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with Mineras. Univ. Modelo will meet at home Las Avispas (#6) in the next round. Penguins will play against Libelulas and look forward to get finally their first victory.

In the last game of round 5 Toritas were destroyed by Libelulas on the opponent's court 96-39.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 23 points and 12 rebounds by Yayma Boulet of Libelulas.

Mieleras held Mineras to an opponent 25.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 43.8 percent accuracy of the winners. Mieleras forced 27 Mineras turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Mineras' players. American guard Destiny Pitts (178-1999, college: Texas A&M) nailed a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side and the former international Kimberly Aguilar (182-1997) accounted for 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks. Libelulas - Toritas 96-39

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 5th ranked Toritas' (2-4) road loss to fourth ranked Libelulas (4-2) 39-96 on Sunday. Libelulas dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Toritas' 20. Libelulas forced 23 Toritas turnovers and outrebounded them 36-24 including 24 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was Cuban center Yayma Boulet (193-1984) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds. Carmen Gonzalez chipped in 20 points. Coach 's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Yesica Vallejo produced 10 points and 7 rebounds and guard Fernanda Fausto (172) added 13 points respectively for the guests. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Libelulas. They maintain fourth place with 4-2 record. Toritas lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the fifth position with four games lost. Libelulas will meet bottom-ranked Penguins (#9) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Toritas will play against the league's leader Mieleras (#1) and hope to secure a win.
