LMBPF Round 13 (Regular Season): Univ. Modelo lose to Libelulas in the game between Top 4 teams

The game between Top Four teams took place in Ciudad de Mexico. Second ranked host Libelulas (12-2) smashed 4th placed Univ. Modelo (7-5) 103-57. Libelulas dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Univ. Modelo's 24 and made 26-of-31 free shots (83.9 percent) during the game. Libelulas forced 30 Univ. Modelo turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. 28 personal fouls committed by Univ. Modelo helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Gladiana Avila stepped up and scored 24 points and 4 assists for the winners and the former international point guard Paola Beltran (164-1994) chipped in 18 points. At the losing side guard Valeria Cachon (172-2006) responded with 11 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Libelulas have an impressive series of twelve victories in a row. They maintain second place with 12-2 record having just two points less than leader Mieleras. Newly promoted Univ. Modelo keeps the fourth position with five games lost. Libelulas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Univ. Modelo will play at home against the league's leader Mieleras (#1) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
LMBPF top team - Mieleras (14-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed ninth ranked Penguins (1-11) in Guanajuato 92-27. Venezuelan guard Jormelys Urbina (170-1996) nailed 14 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side and Veronica Preciado accounted for 14 points and 4 assists. Mieleras' coach felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Kalla Enriquez came up with 2 points and 13 rebounds for Penguins in the defeat. The victory was the fourteenth consecutive win for Mieleras. Defending champion maintains first place with 14-0 record. Newly promoted Penguins stay at the bottom position with 11 games lost. Mieleras will play against Univ. Modelo (#4) in Merida in the next round. Penguins will play on the road against Toritas (#7) in Celaya and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Newly promoted Dragonas maintains fifth place with 6-6 record. Huskys lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the seventh position with ten games lost. They share it with Toritas. Dragonas will meet at home Las Avispas (#6) in the next round. Huskys will play against Mineras and hope to secure a win.

In the last game of round 13 Toritas lost to Mineras on the opponent's court 67-85.

American guard Briahanna Jackson (168-1993, college: Louisville) chipped in 22 points and 7 assists. Mineras' coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Cuban forward Suanly Tanis (178-1994) produced 20 points and 7 rebounds and Yesica Vallejo added 10 points and 10 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for Mineras. They maintain third place with 8-4 record having eight points less than leader Mieleras. Toritas lost their tenth game in a row. They keep the seventh position with ten games lost. They share it with Huskys. Mineras will meet Huskys (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Toritas will play against Penguins and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
