Undefeated leader Mieleras delivered the sixteenth consecutive win on Sunday night. This time they crushed 5th ranked Univ. Modelo (7-7) 72-43 in Merida. Mieleras forced 27 Univ. Modelo turnovers. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Mayra Gil (174-2003) who scored 12 points. Center Diana Ledesma (186-1999) chipped in 8 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Adelina Gallardo who recorded 10 points and 6 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated Mieleras (16-0) have an impressive series of sixteen victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with a perfect record of 16 victories in a row. Univ. Modelo lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the fifth position with seven games lost. Mieleras will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Univ. Modelo will play at home against Dragonas (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Ciudad de Mexico supposed to be also worth to mention about. Third ranked Mineras (10-4) played at the court of 7th ranked Huskys (2-12). Mineras smashed Huskys 73-45. It was a good game for power forward Joselyne Padilla who led her team to a victory with 14 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Karla Martinez contributed with 10 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Mineras' coach felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Erika Mora answered with 14 points and 8 rebounds for Huskys. The victory was the tenth consecutive win for Mineras. They maintain third place with 10-4 record having eight points less than leader Mieleras. Huskys lost their fifth game in a row. They dropped to the eighth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Penguins. Mineras will play against bottom-ranked Penguins (#9) in Mexico City in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Huskys' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Ciudad de Mexico Libelulas.
The game in Celaya was also quite interesting. 7th ranked Penguins (2-12) played at the court of eighth ranked Toritas (3-11). Toritas defeated Penguins 77-64 on Sunday. It was a great evening for Suanly Tanis who led her team to a victory scoring 38 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was Giselle Medina with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Toritas moved-up to seventh place. Newly promoted Penguins dropped to the bottom position with 12 games lost. They share it with Huskys. Toritas will meet at home higher ranked Las Avispas (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Penguins will play against Mineras and hope to secure a win.
In the last game of round 15 Las Avispas were defeated by Dragonas in Toluca 60-54.
The best stats of 15th round was 17 points and 10 rebounds by Zaira Aldama of Dragonas.
