LMBPF Round 17 (Regular Season): Huskys are defeated by Libelulas in a derby game

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Ciudad de Mexico: Libelulas (#2) and Huskys (#8). Huskys were crushed at home by 72 points 43-115 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Libelulas dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Huskys' 28. Libelulas forced 31 Huskys turnovers and outrebounded them 49-30 including a 18-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Libelulas looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Huskys' players. The former international point guard Paola Beltran (164-1994) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 5 rebounds, 10 assists and 7 steals for the winners and forward Montserrat Aguilar (181-1998, agency: Daggers Sports) chipped in 23 points and 9 rebounds. Libelulas' coach felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Emily Herrejon responded with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Libelulas (14-2) have an impressive series of fourteen victories in a row. They maintain second place having just two points less than leader Mieleras. Huskys lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with 14 games lost. They share it with Penguins.
The game in Celaya supposed to be also worth to mention about. 6th ranked Las Avispas (5-11) played at the court of seventh ranked Toritas (4-12). Toritas smashed Las Avispas 79-50. Guard Fernanda Fausto (172) nailed 16 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists for the winning side and Cinthya Dominguez accounted for 9 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Coach 's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. The former international Gabriela Castrejon came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds for Las Avispas in the defeat. Toritas maintains seventh place with 4-12 record. Las Avispas at the other side keep the sixth position with 11 games lost.

In the last two games of round 17 Dragonas lost to Univ. Modelo on the opponent's court 54-58. Bottom-ranked Penguins were outscored by Mineras in a home game 48-94.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 22 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists by Paola Estrada of Mineras.

Univ. Modelo - Dragonas 58-54

Everything could happen in Merida at the game between two tied teams. Both fourth ranked Univ. Modelo and 5th ranked Dragonas had identical 8-7 record. This time Univ. Modelo used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Toluca 58-54. Univ. Modelo had a 35-22 advantage in offensive rebounds. The former international point guard Melissa Ruiz (162-2002) nailed 12 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winning side and Adriana Gonzalez (181-2001) accounted for 19 points. Sharon Saucedo came up with 7 points and 10 rebounds and Paola Velazquez added 14 points respectively for Dragonas in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted Univ. Modelo maintains fourth place with 9-7 record. Dragonas at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keep the fifth position with eight games lost.

Very predictable result in Mexico City where third ranked Mineras (12-4) smashed bottom-ranked Penguins (2-14) 94-48. Mineras made 18-of-20 charity shots (90.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Penguins turnovers and outrebounded them 41-27 including 30 on the defensive glass. Mineras players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Penguins' players. The former international guard Paola Estrada (172-1993, agency: DC Sports) nailed a double-double by scoring 22 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and the former international Maria Faz (187-1994) accounted for 8 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Frida Figueroa came up with 14 points and Giselle Medina added 9 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Penguins in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the twelfth consecutive win for Mineras. They maintain third place with 12-4 record having four points less than leader Mieleras. Penguins lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom position with 14 games lost. They share it with Huskys.
