Panteras (13-1) recorded its first loss on the court of fourth ranked El Calor on Thursday night. Visitors were defeated by El Calor 93-83. El Calor looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists. American forward Shae Kelley (185-1991, college: Minnesota) fired 23 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Russian center Elizaveta Shabanova (197-1997) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. American forward Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis (180-1993, college: UConn) produced 19 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists for lost side. El Calor maintains fourth place with 8-6 record. Panteras at the other side still keep top position with one game lost. El Calor are looking forward to face Santas (#5) in Potosi in the next round. Panteras will play on the road against the league's second-placed Adelitas (#2) in Chihuahua and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Another exciting game was played in Ciudad Victoria between sixth ranked Freseras and 7th ranked Correcaminos where Freseras (4-10) beat Correcaminos (3-11) on the road 84-77. The game was dominated by American players. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Talia von Oelhoffen (180-2002, college: USC, agency: Next Page Sports) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 29 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of her nine free throws !!!). Destiny Harden contributed with 24 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Guard Chelsea Mitchell (175-1997, college: Morgan St.) answered with 24 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for Correcaminos. Correcaminos' coach Jordi Vizcaino rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Freseras moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Santas. Correcaminos at the other side keep the seventh position with 11 games lost. Freseras will play against higher ranked Fuerza Regia (#3) in Monterrey in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Correcaminos will play on the road against Abejas (#8) in Leon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game was played in Ciudad Victoria where Freseras (#6) beat host Correcaminos (#7) 77-73 on Friday evening. It was a great evening for Batabe Zempare who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 assists. At the losing side Dorie Harrison responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 assists. Freseras (4-10) moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Santas. Loser Correcaminos keep the seventh position with 11 games lost. Freseras will meet at home higher ranked Fuerza Regia (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Correcaminos will play against Abejas (#8) in Leon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Other games of round 7 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Fuerza Regia was defeated by Adelitas in Chihuahua 93-81. Bottom-ranked Abejas were beaten by Santas at home 80-88. Fuerza Regia won against Adelitas on the opponent's court 96-90. El Calor unfortunately lost to Panteras in a home game 68-74. Santas managed to beat Abejas on the road 71-64.
