LSB Round 21: Brumas edge Real Esteli by three points

The most exciting game of round 21 in the LSB took place in Esteli. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of second-best Real Esteli (9-4) to first ranked Brumas (11-3) 67-64 on Tuesday evening. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Real Esteli. The best player for the winners was American center Leon Hampton (213-95, college: Stillman, agency: Epic Sports Consulting LLC) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 24 rebounds. The former international Dayton Cacho (186-91) chipped in 15 points. At the other side the best for losing team was Dominican point guard Jaison Valdez (188-95) who recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Brumas have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 11-3 record. Real Esteli at the other side dropped to the third position with four games lost.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Cacique D. (10-5) against seventh ranked Leon (7-7) on Friday night. Visiting Cacique D. was defeated by Leon in a tough game on the road 84-92. It was a good game for Dominican center Miguel Almonte (211-91) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 16 rebounds. Oreste Torres contributed with 21 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Dominican forward Xavier de la Rosa (196-91) answered with 29 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for Cacique D.Leon maintains seventh place with 7-7 record. Cacique D. at the other side keeps the second position with five games lost.
The game in supposed to be also quite interesting. 4th placed Ingenieria (8-6) played at the court of fifth ranked Rivas (8-7). Rivas smashed Ingenieria 84-62 on Thursday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Ingenieria. BJ Glasford stepped up with a triple-double by scoring 10 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists for the winners. The best for the losing side was Ronald Lawton with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Rivas maintains fifth place with 8-7 record. Loser Ingenieria keeps the fourth position with six games lost.

In the last two games of round 21 Rivas was defeated by Cacique D. in Diriangen 94-89. Leones MGA beat Tigres at home 87-74.



Real Esteli - Brumas 64-67

Cacique D. - Rivas 94-89

There was no surprise in Diriangen where 5th ranked Rivas (8-7) were defeated by second ranked Cacique D. (10-5) 94-89 on Tuesday. Dominican forward Xavier de la Rosa (196-91) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 16 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winners and forward Jeremy Agosto chipped in 29 points, 13 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals. The best for the losing side was American center BJ Glasford (196-95, college: Stetson, agency: Green Sports Management) with 27 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import power forward Darryl Palmer (203-94, college: SC State) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 16 rebounds. Four Rivas players scored in double figures. Rivas' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Cacique D. maintains second place with 10-5 record behind leader Brumas. Loser Rivas keep the fifth position with seven games lost.

Leones MGA - Tigres 87-74

No shocking result in a game in Managua where sixth ranked Leones MGA (7-6) defeated bottom-ranked Tigres (1-13) 87-74 on Thursday. Leones MGA forced 19 Tigres turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. American forward Chris Blake (195-88, college: Detroit) stepped up and scored 28 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 steals for the winners and Argentinian power forward Gianfranco Sinconi (204-94) chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds. Four Leones MGA players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American Quincy Scates (198-89, college: TWU) with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and Jose Ortiz scored 23 points. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Leones MGA maintains sixth place with 7-6 record. Loser Tigres stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost.
