LSB Round 11: UNI Basket edges Caribbean Coast by three points- August 26, 2022

Caribbean Coast - UNI Basket 89-92 The most exciting game of round 11 in the LSB took place in Managua. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 6th ranked Caribbean Coast (4-7) to third ranked UNI Basket (6-4) 92-89 on Wednesday evening. UNI Basket forced 19 Caribbean Coast turnovers. 26 personal fouls committed by Caribbean Coast helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American-Puerto Rican guard Brian Vazquez (190-1994) who scored 31 points. American center Scott Sill (206-1992, college: Delaware St.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. Four UNI Basket players scored in double figures. Luis Lopez Martinez produced 36 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds and American guard Jeremy Agosto (177-1997) added 24 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. UNI Basket maintains third place with 6-4 record having six points less than leader Real Esteli, which they share with Leones MGA. Caribbean Coast at the other side keeps the sixth position with seven games lost. Jaguares looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for Guyanese-American center Anthony Moe (206-1990, college: Millersville) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 16 rebounds. American Joel Kindred (193-1991, college: St.Augustine) helped adding 28 points and 7 rebounds. Jaguares' coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Dominican Xavier de la Rosa (196-1991) responded with 25 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists and the former international Dalton Cacho (200-1993) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 16 rebounds. Four Jaguares and five Brumas players scored in double figures. Jaguares maintains second place with 9-1 record having just three points less than leader Real Esteli. Brumas lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with five games lost. It was a great evening for forward Jean Quezada (-2000) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 20 rebounds and 4 blocks. American forward Josmel Martinez (198, college: Broward CC) helped adding 22 points and 11 rebounds. Dominican Jeffry Arias responded with 17 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals and Dominican Jose Espinal produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Leones MGA moved-up to third place, which they share with UNI Basket. Indigenas lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with seven games lost. This time they edged ninth-ranked Rivas 91-89. Occidentales forced 26 Rivas turnovers and outrebounded them 41-30 including 23 on the offensive glass. Guard Deikel Sanchez orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 19 rebounds. Puerto Rican guard Roberto Nieves (194-1982, college: Valpo) contributed with 28 points and 6 steals for the winners. American Quentin Davis (199, college: Mendocino CC) answered with 19 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists and 8 steals and the other American import forward Telvin Gabriel (198-1994, college: Lander) added 29 points in the effort for Rivas. Four Rivas players scored in double figures. Rivas' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Occidentales (2-8) moved-up to ninth place. Rivas at the other side dropped to the bottom position with eight games lost. This time they crushed 7th ranked Leon (3-6) 94-74. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Leon. Real Esteli dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Leon's 32. They outrebounded Leon 42-30 including 27 on the offensive glass. Real Esteli looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for Puerto Rican guard Ismael Cruz (190-2001, college: Indian Hills) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Puerto Rican forward Leandro Allende (198-1998, college: Barry) helped adding 15 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Naturalized American guard Peter Martinez (177-1996, college: William Pater.) responded with 20 points and 6 assists and American power forward Zacarry Douglas (203-1995, college: NCCU) scored 15 points and 8 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Real Esteli (11-0) have an impressive series of eleven victories in a row. They maintain first place with a perfect record of 11 victories in a row. Loser Leon keeps the seventh position with six games lost. Real Esteli dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Caribbean Coast's 24. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for Puerto Rican guard Ismael Cruz (190-2001, college: Indian Hills) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds. The former international swingman Francisco Garth (195-1999) helped adding 12 points and 8 rebounds. Luis Lopez Martinez responded with 41 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds and American guard Jeremy Agosto (177-1997) scored 17 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the eleventh consecutive win for Real Esteli. They maintain first place with 11-0 record.
