LSB Round 14: Brumas hand first defeat to Real Esteli

Real Esteli (13-1) recorded its first loss at the home court on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by fourth ranked Brumas (9-5) 79-71. The best player for the winners was Cuban center Marvin Cairo (203-1991) who scored 25 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Dominican center Jose Familia (201-1998) chipped in 12 points and 14 rebounds. Puerto Rican guard Ismael Cruz (190-2001, college: Indian Hills) produced a double-double by scoring 30 points and 11 rebounds for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Brumas have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 9-5 record. Real Esteli at the other side still keeps top place with one game lost.

Puerto Rican guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-1991, agency: Interperformances) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Francisco Garth contributed with 24 points for the winners. American forward King Revolution (206-1990, college: Southern, agency: BIG) replied with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds for Leones MGA. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Real Esteli maintains first position with 13-1 record. Leones MGA at the other side keeps the fifth place with six games lost.
The game in was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Brumas (9-5) played at the court of 7th ranked Leon (4-8). Brumas managed to secure a 9-point victory 81-72 on Sunday. Jose Familia had a double-double by scoring 27 points and 18 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. Brumas' coach used a ten-player rotation saving starting five for next games. Pablo Rivas responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. Brumas have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 9-5 record. Loser Leon keeps the seventh place with eight games lost.

In the last two games of round 14 bottom-ranked Occidentales were crushed by UNI Basket in a road game 115-65. Indigenas were beaten by Jaguares at home 72-89.
The best stats of 14th round was 45 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds by Jefry Arias of Indigenas.



UNI Basket - Occidentales 115-65

There was no surprise when 10th ranked Occidentales (2-12) were crushed on the road by third ranked UNI Basket (9-4) 115-65 on Saturday. UNI Basket forced 20 Occidentales turnovers and outrebounded them 55-37 including a 39-28 advantage in offensive rebounds. UNI Basket looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Occidentales' players. American center Scott Sill (206-1992, college: Delaware St.) had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 17 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American-Puerto Rican guard Brian Vazquez (190-1994) chipped in 25 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. Five UNI Basket players scored in double figures. Puerto Rican guard Roberto Nieves (194-1982, college: Valpo) responded with 26 points and 5 rebounds and guard Deikel Sanchez produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds. UNI Basket have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 9-4 record having five points less than leader Real Esteli. Occidentales lost fourth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 12 games lost.

No shocking result in a game in Matagalpa where second ranked Jaguares (11-2) defeated 8th ranked Indigenas (3-10) 89-72 on Sunday. Jaguares looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Indigenas' players. American Timothy Simmons (195-1992, college: DBU) scored 27 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import center Leon Hampton (213-1995, college: Stillman) chipped in 17 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Hampton is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Dominican guard Jefry Arias (182-1994) responded with 45 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds and Raul Mendoza (190-1987) scored 6 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Jaguares maintains second position with 11-2 record having just three points less than leader Real Esteli. Indigenas lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with ten games lost.
