UNI Basket - Occidentales 115-65 There was no surprise when 10th ranked Occidentales (2-12) were crushed on the road by third ranked UNI Basket (9-4) 115-65 on Saturday. UNI Basket forced 20 Occidentales turnovers and outrebounded them 55-37 including a 39-28 advantage in offensive rebounds. UNI Basket looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Occidentales' players. American center Scott Sill (206-1992, college: Delaware St.) had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 17 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American-Puerto Rican guard Brian Vazquez (190-1994) chipped in 25 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. Five UNI Basket players scored in double figures. Puerto Rican guard Roberto Nieves (194-1982, college: Valpo) responded with 26 points and 5 rebounds and guard Deikel Sanchez produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds. Jaguares looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Indigenas' players. American Timothy Simmons (195-1992, college: DBU) scored 27 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import center Leon Hampton (213-1995, college: Stillman) chipped in 17 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Hampton is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Dominican guard Jefry Arias (182-1994) responded with 45 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds and Raul Mendoza (190-1987) scored 6 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Jaguares maintains second position with 11-2 record having just three points less than leader Real Esteli.
